There’s probably a group of 5 or so players that Nuno wants to drastically improve their fitness levels so they’re on a higher intensity training program to the rest of the group and games would get in the way of this. Looks like he wants his fullbacks to be workhorses like rose and walker were a few years back and Ndombele looks to be in the group too. If that’s what’s happening then it’s great news that Nuno has identified it early.

Not missed ITK, just basing it on his demeanour over the last 2 seasons.

That's pretty poor then and uninformed speculation.

I personally dislike Ndombele's body language. Last season he came on as a sub and actually grimaced and looked knackered as he ran on the pitch. He has bags of talent and if he had the drive and desire to take games by the scruff of the neck he could impact them like Gazza used to.

However, we have a new manager and a new fitness team, with sport science being embraced and a focus on getting players into the best possible shape (and not just aerobic fitness, flexibility, strength etc.). As I said in my previous posts, there could be multiple reasons why we have not seen 5 or 6 first team players yet who have all been training - Reguilon, Ndombele, Doherty, Aurier, Lamela etc..

I would have no problem if Nuno decided he was not part of his plans and we moved him on. Likewise, I will be delighted if he flourishes and becomes the top player he has the potential to be with us.

The key thing is to be patient and let the pre-season process run its course, and that includes players fitness, incomings and outgoings. But whilst we are being patient, let's give players at our club the benefit of the doubt.

How did Hojbjerg do in comparison?

Because that’s what he should be measured against.

  • He featured in 23 of our 23 Prem matches in 2021.
  • He started 23 of the 23.
  • He averaged 90 minutes on the field in the matches he started.
  • Completed a full 90 in 23.
  • Played less than 75 in 0.
EDIT: I messed up - these are Prem-only stats. So I changed it to 23 matches.

Tanguy is without a doubt our current most talented midfielder. He's got the potential to be Mousa with a better final ball which would be insane.

I think his best performances last year were when he was playing as a 10, I don't think he's best in the 10 but he dropped off a bit ironically when his fitness got better and Jose dropped him back next to Hojberg.

Skipped- Hojberg with Tanguy in front might be really good and fluid.

I really rate Lo Celso aswell so it will be interesting with the options we have.

I do honestly think though Tanguy has world class potential. Whether we can unlock it is another question.

I want him to do well with us as well though i guess everyone has a different time frame for being patient !

Quick graph of Tanguy's minutes per match in the Prem last season. (Doesn't include matches he didn't feature)

EDIT: Data is in reverse. So first match is far right, last match is far left. I made this after teaching 9 year old's all day, OK. Throw me a friggin' bone here.

I think they’ve both been disappointing, given how much we paid for both. I’d be fine if we kept them for another season to see if Santos can get anything out of them, but equally I wouldn’t lose any sleep if we sold them and reinvested the funds. That’s hardly an inspiring endorsement of either of them, but let’s face it- if they played for any of our opponents, I don’t think we’d be fearful coming up against them

It must be a buyers market atm, clubs must be broke, off loading players will be hard.

Obviously, we are none the wiser why he's not playing in these games (could be COVID, could be injury, could be fitness conditioning - although that's odd), however, I would have expected him to be back relaxed, reinvigorated and chomping at the bit this pre-season, after such a prolonged period of upheaval. He HAS to be firing on all cylinders come August 18th. If he isn't by then, when will he ever be?

We've made a huge investment in this guy, and we've had next to no return so far, 24 months later....

why should he be measured against PEH who is one of only 2/3 players to play in every game across the division.

Because thats the standard of professionalism, leadership, desire and putting the team first that we want from our players. Or are we going to measure him below that, because that wont get us anywhere.

Well according to Ally Gold he’s just become a father hence why he hasn’t been playing
Sorry Ally G but crumblybits69420 said it's because he's fat and lazy due to wearing a beanie out of season. Now who are you going to believe?

I would love everyone to be at PEH level but that isn't possible for most because of injury and various other factors. Also PEH shouldn't be playing that many games it's detrimental to him and the team, he was over worked and his form dipped

Agree. But we need players who can supplement him. Skipp will help no doubt but we need another midfielder in there and I don't think ndombele is that man (based on how our form tailed off last season when he played in a two) and neither is winks or sissoko. He is a problem that needs solving. And fast.
