But Lo Celso, Regilon and Ndolcantbearsed were all highly rated and are now worthless

And they were all signed when we had a manager. I get the point everyone is making but managers are used to working with players they didn't sign, every player is new to the manager then. The club/Levy needs to pull his finger out but other parts of the team have to continue working until the management situation is sorted.

I find it amazing that people here are having a go at signing him on a free.

He has barely played 500minutes in PL for Fulham, but in that he had a spell of 4 continuous scoring games in PL.

He is a very good talent and would absolutely be a great buy for us.
Remember Dele - one who got him for us is David Pleat and he had no official role with us at that time.

Sometime, when things come this way, you take it. You dont say, well, lets get a DoF and manager and then let them decide in July. He would be in Fulham preseason tour by then....

Its a no brainer free transfer. If its possible we should do it

Would be a very natural Squad player that can take a rotation role with Richarlison to the left and then we are able to move Son out this year.

Very good player…can play LW, RW, AM and even wing back. Had that amazing spell scoring 5 games in a row including a winner and some tying goals and some absolute worldies in the process. Excellent creative dribbler, passing isn’t consistently excellent, very quick/great speed and his shooting is very good. He scored multiple major goals in the champions league for Shakhtar against Madrid and City. On a free, it’s a no brainer. Solomon for free > Danjuma for £25m everyday.

2 things.

1. We signed all of those players for big fees, £30-60m. The difference here is Solomon is a free transfer. There’s no risk involved, we will make pure profit, not a loss. So it’s a completely different situation.

2. On a separate note, what are we meant to do then? Never sign a highly rated player ever again?

We are likely to get a £20m plus fee for Lo Celso this summer from Villa btw.
Not at all, simply saying we can’t can’t keep accumulating players when we already have players to shift that we have had trouble shifting. There will also still be a signing on fee and wages to pay so it’s still costing us.

If we were sat here with a new DOF and manger and he was wanted by theme ,I’d be saying bloody good business ) and it might well prove to be) but we haven’t

It’s not knocking the signing, it’s making said signings without a DOF, or manager? What if they don’t fancy him when appointed? We’ve got a player sitting on a 3 yr contract who potentially don’t play, ala Danjuma.

Exactly. Some people will never learn.

He looks to lack consistency to me despite being a good player off and on. Maybe the new data department have seen something in him but without a manager in place what’s the point? The player probably won’t even want to come here without one in place and would rather sign for Fulham who look to have some stability.

Thank fuck for some common sense, not the constant Levy/cub bashing without any thought behind it.

As you point out, the D.O.F will lean on scouts and other members of the recruitment team - he doesn't pick all the players himself. As we were already very interested in him a year ago, it's not a shock that we are still interested in him now, especially when he's played well, scored some great goals in the PL AND IS FREE !

If you are desperate to moan, at least moan that he's a young, fairly slightly built left sided player , and we have Bryan Gil on our books.......
You know if I wrote you're opinion off as sucking up to levy you wouldn't like it so how about you offer the same courtesy to offers.

It's a perfectly reasonable position to want the people in charge of the football team to be in charge of what players we buy and whilst yes a DOF will lean on scouts we dont currently have one so that point is irrelevant and if we did he would be asking the manager who picks the team if he wanted the player. Dont have one of them either.

Nobody is saying he us a bad player, just that the structure should be in place before we buy any player.

Take Porro for example. Brilliant wing back but its highly debatable as to whether he can be a full back and If he can would he do it any better than Emerson? And that's not even getting into Djed Spence who is also a good wing back that we brought six months previous. Were now chasing managers who play 4 at the back.

We don't spend beyond our means and have the tightest wage control in the league so we should focus on making every signing work. This isn't the way to do that.

He presses, beats players and shoots from range a lot. Looks like a bit of a one trick pony from his stats but they also suggest he’s pretty good at that one trick.

Spoke to my Fulham supporting mate and he said there was a period this season where he looked like a world beater then according to him dropped out of the side due to some question marks over attitude and commitment to Fulham and then coupling that with Willian’s impressive season that’s why not much more was seen of him.

I get that but we have had a massive problem here that every man and his dog has complained about players that aren’t signed for the manger and here we are signing another one.

its a forum with differing opinions and I certainly put thought into my view which I thought was expressed in the right way, it wasn’t a case of just moaning about a levy and I did mention Gills place !

Didn’t mention earlier but he feels a big need as we struggle against low blocks and players who can go 1v1 to break them down..that’s a strength of his. Fits a direct squad need no matter who the manager is.

To anyone who says, why sign players even without manager or DoF...

Our Best CB signings in last 2 decades - Vertonghen...was wanted by Redknapp but he left Spurs , we wrapped up the deal before AVB took charge.

We dont know the history how long we been tracking this player Solomon. So, if its a case, previous regime scouted, but incase, if there is a narrow window of opportunity to do a good deal, you take it.

Infact , if the club does this deal, then I would be somewhat happy that club is functioning regardless of the mess we are in.

Surely Fulham who are a much more ambitious club than us will blow us out the water on agent/signing on fees and wages.

We are signing him because his transfer market value is approx £10-15m

A "opportunity " signing all day long

How many of these we had....N''Jie N'Koudou. Rodon Gedson. VIinicius etc

Some things never change

Tell me which of the top six arsenal Manure Citi Chelsea Newcastle Liverpool will sign him even as a squad player

Liverpool have signed people like milner, xhakiri (is that his name I've forgotten), Robertson and probably others that raised eyebrows, Newcastle have people like Dan burn, longstaff , Richie and others who we wouldn't want. Man utd signed Weighorst on loan , city got Ake a player I read wasn't all that from spurs fans.

My point is the issue isn't whether he is a good player or not because a data driven model will offer up opportunities that might not seem exciting but would fit a system and complement other players but how can we be driving data here when we don't know who is in charge of our team.

Let's see , maybe just maybe the new manager has been decided and he is telling them he likes the lad.

Arsenal would, Newcastle would and Liverpool would. £15m value because he’s spent one season on loan from the Ukrainian league. Murdryk aside, who else from Ukraine that wasn’t Willian or Diego Costa has cost much? If he has come from Spain or even the Netherlands, he’s a €25m/30m player.

city was linked to him a few years back after he played them in Europe and arsenal has been linked for years too (as have we, this hasn’t come from nowhere)

How come Fulham is not signing him if he is that good.

Another Levy punt

No other to 6 club will even consider this level of a player
Maybe actually read before spouting nonsense?:

'Fulham would like to secure him to a permanent deal and Tottenham are at the front of the queue if he does leave Craven Cottage, although no decision has been taken yet, and he will have other offers.'

One of my personal pet peeves is the implication that free signings are truly free and therefore risk free. In practice, free signings often come with a signing on fee, agent fees, and elevated wages. I would guess when you amortize the outlay over the life of the contract it's still overall less than it would be for a player with a big transfer fee so it can still be a good deal, but "free" does not equal zero spent. Plus, one of the main hurdles we have moving on players we don't want is that they have wages too high for other leagues to cover, so a free signing (with potentially higher wages) might be harder to shift.

Anyway, just a personal pet peeve in how it's discussed. If we're doing leg work to line someone up, I say great! If we're trying to get a signature on a contract without a DoF and coach, I would say big mistake. Nothing to do with the player, just the process for me.
