Anyone knocking this potential free signing is nuts. Guy is a good player, with the potential to be very good. He is very technical, good 1 on 1. Great energy. Anyone forgotten few years ago Pep wanted to sign him?
That's not the point for me though

To even consider buying anyone without a DOF or manager on board is mental. And there are plenty of good players out there that managers don't fancy.

It's backwards and how we got into this position

Thanks for the run down on him @Nick-TopSpursMan and @Hercules i honestly didn’t have a clue who he was.

Seems sensible for the club to be lining up potential signings. We’d all be pillorying them if they didn’t and we didn’t sign any players this summer cause we were waiting for the coaches go ahead.

I suspect it’s because it’s another club signing.

He did well for about 5 games for Fulham and then was replaced by a nearly forty year old Willian.

I cannot believe that anyone would even suggest we don’t do free business on a deal like this because no DOF. We were in for him last summer. If it is a possibility you can’t let it past because you have no DOF/Manager.

Willian has been absolutely superb this season and Fulham’s best player. One of the best attackers in the league this season.

This kid is a highly rated player from his time at Shakhtar. Everyone moans we don’t sell players and trade enough. If we sign him and it works out, we’ve got an excellent player on a free. If it doesn’t work out, we sell him and make pure profit for our books, which we can reinvest in the team.

I want Levy out, I want him gone but moaning about this is nuts imo.

We can’t spend £200m plus on 7-9 players this summer. Signing this kid on a free will give us a bigger budget for our defence and creative midfield areas, which are of far greater importance currently.

We have a bloated squad with over 200m worth of "talent" out on loan this season. What happens if the new manager doesn't want him? He will be just another player we have to try and sell / loan out.
It doesn't matter if he's a perceived bargain, to sign someone without a DOF or Manager agreeing to it is potentially another waste of money.

If Brighton signed him on a free transfer, everyone would go nuts and say why don’t we gamble on signings like this…
Nick you could say that about anyone 😂

Brighton arent signing him and even if they were they would have a director of football and a head coach that wants him. We have neither

It’s not knocking the signing, it’s making said signings without a DOF, or manager? What if they don’t fancy him when appointed? We’ve got a player sitting on a 3 yr contract who potentially don’t play, ala Danjuma.

He scored one absolute belter in like January IIRC, but I haven't heard anything about him before or since.

Makes sense if Fulham don't want to play him because they know they're losing him in the summer regardless though, it's not like they've been fighting for anything in the last few months.

As a signing for us? No idea. And that's a problem.

He looked fantastic in the two games I've seen him in. We're also lacking technical attacking midfielders.

Then we sell him in a year for pure profit.

He is a highly rated player within Europe. Some big clubs have been tracking him for a while including us and Scum.

I agree we’re in a nuts position with no DoF or Manager but we still have a recruitment team. What do we do? Stop scouting? Stop exploring transfers? Put every operation at the club on hold? If we do that and don’t get a DoF until Mid June, we will be so far behind the transfer window plans of other teams we will be fucked.

But Lo Celso, Regilon and Ndolcantbearsed were all highly rated and are now worthless

Well let’s hope the new manager rates him otherwise he can take Gills place on the bench or loan list or wherever our collection of nobody wants signings are kept

Regardless of the Dof/Manager question and the fact we don’t even know what formation we will be playing next season. And the question of how good or bad he is. I think another big issue for me is Gil.

We spent a large amount on him and he has been developing well since he’s started playing week in week out. He is naturally much more comfortable on the LW then the right. Imo we shouldn’t wright him off before we have a manager who actually has a chance to work with him. He’s certainly good enough to be playing a part for us and I really don’t think we should be forcing him to play RW ether.

If we were lacking in the LW department then it would make more sense to me. But we have Gil, Son and Richy all who can play RW and only Kulu who is comfortable on the right.

In theory I’m not against it, he looks a promising player on a free. But I would be disappointed if we wrote off Gil before he’s had a chance to work with a new manager, one which I’d hope is good at developing youth players.

I want Levy out as much as the next person buttttt…

1. There are more people in our recruitment team than the DOF. We made like 3 or 4 hires in the past year that have made the news. Are they meant to sit around and do nothing?
2. We have to do work on summer transfers (like other clubs will be doing) or we will be absolutely fucked. Of course the new DOF and manager should approve them though.
3. No where does it say we are definitely signing him.
Thank fuck for some common sense, not the constant Levy/cub bashing without any thought behind it.

As you point out, the D.O.F will lean on scouts and other members of the recruitment team - he doesn't pick all the players himself. As we were already very interested in him a year ago, it's not a shock that we are still interested in him now, especially when he's played well, scored some great goals in the PL AND IS FREE !

If you are desperate to moan, at least moan that he's a young, fairly slightly built left sided player , and we have Bryan Gil on our books.......

2 things.

1. We signed all of those players for big fees, £30-60m. The difference here is Solomon is a free transfer. There’s no risk involved, we will make pure profit, not a loss. So it’s a completely different situation.

2. On a separate note, what are we meant to do then? Never sign a highly rated player ever again?

We are likely to get a £20m plus fee for Lo Celso this summer from Villa btw.
