Absolutely not ready to start but by looking at him and his exceptional growth I'd be genuinely surprised if he doesn't become an option off the bench in his first season with us.
Yeah you also get the impression this has been what’s sold to him (obviously with the caveat of your keep your head down and train hard)

I don’t think we managed to sign him by telling him you’ll go out on loan for a couple of years/play for our under 21s for a season or 2.

He's more than 3 years younger than Sarr and Udogie who are our two youngest starting players in the squad. Time is definitely on his side.

He's 18 but will have around 3000 minutes of men's football when he joins in the summer, so we shouldn't be too worried that limited minutes will lead to stagnation.

That said, I think his best attributes translates very well across different levels of opposition. His close control, balance and ability to change direction isn't something that is going to be found out at the highest level IMO. He's more likely to go from outplaying his opponent in Sweden, to being very very good at it in a Spurs shirt.

Fully agree with your take. He's physically ready and wouldn't look out of place in the PL on that front.
He's got it all, just needs to continue refining himself until he's at the level required, which I believe he might be close to in a year or two if he continues on this trajectory in terms of his growth.

I've mentioned before that I work for a Swedish company, and was on a call with a new colleague yesterday. Mentioned I was a Spurs fan and he said he was a Djurgårdens fan and that we were signing their best prospect he's ever seen. Couldn't speak highly enough of him and is certain he's going to go on to be an absolute superstar. BUT he also said that he doesn't think he's ready for the PL. It'll be interesting to see if he is, because I've always got the feeling from the way he has been presented by the club that he's very much coming in for the first team. But maybe we should temper our expectations a little at first.

Whatever happens with him next season though, it sounds like he has everything to be a huge player for us in the future.
You're going to have to keep repeating this on here!
I was told similar by a Leeds fan about Jack Clarke, he said he wasn't ready and we needed to be patient because it'll take him a good couple of years yet.
Said he was quite young for his age and such a big move would take him time to settle into.

But yet still plenty on here were calling him a waste of money from the start.
A couple of years later and he's beginning to show his potential as a handy little player.
He may not have made the grade for us but we were far too quick to write him off imo.

Some people on here will be ready and willing to pile into Bergvall at the first misplaced pass, that's how they are.

Beautifully put. Too many people seem to expect every teenage signing to be the second coming of Lionel Messi.

Yeah we also have people asking for us to bring back Walker Peters. I think our biggest issue has been changing the manager too often though. We signed Gil and months later got Conte and he wasn't physical enough. That probably hasn't helped him find his feet and unable to impress Ange as well. As long as we either keep Ange or get another who plays to the strengths of Bergvall he should be fine. He needs time and patience though for sure.

100% with you on this.

So many fans can't seem to differentiate between the expectations of a 18/19 year old prospect compared to a 28 yr old player bought for the here and a now. I remember all the "waste of money" comments about Jack Clarke, and we've had the same for other young players down the years.

Fans either set their expectations too high, and start shoehorning a young player from a lesser division/league into their fantasy 11 after watching some YouTube highlights, or they decry write them off after a few appearances. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground.

The pattern seems to be over estimating the potential impact a young player will make and then writing them off when they don’t immediately meet those expectations.

I think a lot of fans still have this romantic notion of an 18 year old coming into the team and blowing everyone away, like Rooney or Owen.

I agree but, tbf, when was the last time we signed a kid who’s just turned 18 with this much potential and hype? Bentaleb maybe? Hard to not get at least a little bit excited about what could be, as long as no one gets carried away with their expectations. I’m certainly looking forward to watching him involved in matchday squads from the off.

How could I forget Dele. Like Bentaleb a little bit older when he first joined but still under 20 and with big hype.

I vaguely remember thinking/saying we should all chill about him, he’s not going to get straight into the team etc etc and he did just that and blew us all away.

God I miss him. Dele from 2015-2019 was a joy to watch.

Folks said the same about Dele. I on the other hand had a tenner on him to be pfa young player of the year at 100-1 before he'd even played in a pre season friendly.

Some players take a while to get up to speed, but on occasion they'll hit the ground running so fast they are passing the senior pro's by Christmas.

Let's see how he gets on in pre season, he might surprise us all and get plenty of game time.

Have you got a bet on Bergvall for next year?

Lennon surprised us all too.

I'm excited by Bergvall and honestly think he'll be knocking on the door straight away but even saying that, I'm not going to be calling him out if he doesn't.

Didn’t we signed bale when he’s 16 or 17?

I think people forget with Lennon that he wasn’t bought to start straight away. But thanks to a pre-season injury to Routledge he got more game time than expected quicker than expected.

I know this is being picky but I don't like the way he floats long passes so high. If he's playing a longer pass he needs to play is flat and hard so as to capitalise on the switch or the early movement. The high arching ball doesn't help us because it gives the opposition a chance to stroll over and get close to their man.

Hopefully that's something he improves on
