They would change the rules to save Barca
I genuinely think that might have been Laporta's strategy all along. Assume that La Liga would never let them fail due to their enormous commercial value.

But up to this point, Javier Tebas has refused to give them even an inch of leeway - even shutting down Barca's attempt to sign Messi last summer, which would surely have given a huge boost to La Liga's TV rights etc.

Eventually, they would cave and let them off, We bent over backwards here to make sure Chelsea was ok after RA

Edit Unless you are right and that just goes to show the Italians and Spanish are punishing far harder than we have in the EPL

Found an interview in Swedish media with Lucas dad from 3 weeks ago.

Reading the below (and some things between the lines) you can understand why he is taking his time even with Barca deal ready.

The below was also said before Xavi announced that he is leaving in the summer.

We try to take one step at a time and try to stay grounded. We see it as a process. It is important that not everything is about this, but that we talk about other things when we are at home. I feel that he feels very calm and secure in everything. He doesn't feel stressed. I don't think it affects him, he says and continues:

He gets compared with other players, but sometimes you forget that he is only 17 years old. You must have that with you. You just have to go to yourself and see how you were when you were 17 years old. It's a lot to take in. It is not an easy situation. But if you tackle it in the right way and have good support, it can be good.

He has his feet on the ground. I am very proud of that. He has always been humble and worked very hard, even though he has always been ahead for his age. He takes nothing for granted.

I am convinced that Lucas will choose what feels best to him. We've gone into this with our eyes open. We will take everything in. Once we have laid out the map, we will make a decision. We are in a good place and are taking it step by step.

I think Lucas is ready to move abroad. Then many people talk about the first six months being quite critical. So we have talked about one way or another we will be involved, at least initially, in finding a solution when there is a move.

Especially at the beginning when you have to adapt to a new country and new language. You will get a new social context. I believe in having a safe point at the beginning. Then everyone is different. Some people cope with it very well and do not want their parents close and others may have a greater need for it. Lucas is the kind of person who is very social and likes to have people around him.

We look at how the teams are playing, how the competitive situation looks like, is it a club playing young players, how much does the club want him? These are parameters that are taken into account in the overall picture. That picture, it takes a while to map it. We do not take first choice. For us, this is a long process and we don't want to rush it.

A lot has to do with how the manager views Lucas and what his plans for him are. It might be good to go to a club that doesn't have too many players in that position.

Barca seem to be in denial about how much trouble they are in. It's like they're hoping that acting as if everything is fine will just make all their problems go away.

They're accelerating towards a cliff edge.
Sounds like my life😔

Did try to tell you it wasn't as straightforward as many made it out to be re him choosing Barca. People are seriously underestimating the pull of Ange, Lange & Fabio. The fact the lad is having a very "rough" time deciding speaks volumes for the effort put in by the club and how far we've travelled. Even if he decides to join Barca, it's great to see that we are trying to attract top talent such as Bergvall 👏🏼

Yeah. Everything from a recruitment point of view looks spot on at the moment.

And that feels pretty wild to say

He'll likely have to learn another language moving to Spain.

Something else to think about.

Hope he chooses us, but actually I hope he’s happy with whatever he decides. His dad sounds like a nice guy and his interview really brings it home what a huge situation this must be for a young lad. I was a bit of a basket case at 17. Maybe Big Daddy Ange and our older Swede Kulu will swerve this our way..?

turns 18 tomorrow…wonder if that’s got anything to do with the delay! Saw somewhere you can give longer contracts to 18year olds…just a ‘musing’
