I remember that game against City very fondly - when he pocketed Grealish after his £100m move.

Good luck Japh, go smash it!

The boy needs to play. As others have said he really has pocketed some of the best wide players in the league. I wish him all the very best. Good pro, good lad and good family.

Good luck Japha!

He needs to play so a move that will get him game time will be good for him. Like KWP we really hampered his development by not loaning him out.

Said to be done now. 1m loan fee and 9m obligation if they stay up or certain other conditions met.
Best of luck to the lad, hope he sacks his agent that advised him to sign the last contract with us which meant his development was completely stalled.
Hope he stays fit and does well there

Can only wish him the best. Seems like a great lad and pro.

Also been fucked about by our ever changing strategy over the years when he needed to be getting critical playing time for his development

Always committed to our club... I wish it could have turned out better for him, but a combination of injuries and poor managers did him no favours... I wish you well Japhet

Some real disrespect in some posts in here.

I have some 'ITK' as a family member was dating his brother for a long time.

Japhet is from a Congolese family, very close to his mother. Family influence crucial in separating him positively from other academy graduates who didn't have the maturity to respond positively to having money.

He's had to be more professional than others, younger than you'd expect because of being seen differently positionally by different managers speedily and without stability. Remember that West Ham game at LWB? Great performance but think about the developmental impact of a young player veering between CB full back and wingback and Mourinho telling him a v diff story about his football identity than Poch.

Then later it was dumped on his shoulders that he had to kind of decide himself (I know this ITK) whether to assert his positional future, or passively be a slotting-in piece but as a more yes-Im-him player (eg Michel Antonio). Which isn't ideal to make his responsibility.

Potential loan to Turkey previously - flip side of the positive family influence. Going to Muslim country a *big* issue culturally and emotionally for his wider circle.

He's had injuries and that's been really hard as it always is. He's only ever played for us, he wanted to play for us and he hasn't been able to. And then he's battling against managers who were happy to rinse players (Dier, PEH and Kane specifically, and for 2 of them thanks a bunch look how that's affected them later) for unbelievable minutes rather than rotate.

Well sure, maybe as it pans out he's not "good enough" but that's a sad story of bad luck, injuries and being settled in your hometown club and having to kill a dream to leave.

Massive props to him if he goes to Germany in particular. He's a North London boy having to do Plan B.
Well said. I’d add in that the chopping and changing of managers ultimately didn’t help young players like Japhet. Really wish him all the best for the future. COYS

Shame it hasn't worked out for him, but seems a top professional and a proper Tottenham boy. Hope it works out for him elsewhere.

That pre-season game in Munich against Madrid seems a long time ago, but I was very much looking forward to him breaking through. Hope he does well and gets a good season under him.
