Slightly concerning that after being targeted at set pieces by both City and Brentford, that we didn’t have a plan to protect him against a team that excels on set pieces.

Instead of being stronger and working through challenges he literally allows players to move him and then throws his hands up after they score complaining. It’s weak. Not going to work in this league. Maybe in Italy you get those calls, not here.

He's not handling it well, but he makes very little of it when it happens. Maybe if he actually looked for them, he would get them.

Of course he complains afterwards when he gets fouled.

He has to stand up for himself more and not go down assuming a foul will be called but let's be clear, it's always a foul. If a defender manhandled one of their attacking players in a similar way on a corner before or as the ball came in, you'd better believe it'd be given as a penalty.

People have realised he will only ever palm/punch crosses so are targeting standing on him now. Poor for both goals today, needs to be protected by defenders and be stronger to the challenges that will now happen every game

He caught a couple of crosses/corners/free kicks in the second half. It's different when someone shoves their butt into him without even looking at the ball.

Not sure how the second goal is on him at all.

If he tried looking for them he'd look like a a schoolboy. You can argue whether backing into him and blocking his movement is unfair but these aren't so forceful that he should end up in a heap. I think he just needs to put some force of his own into these duels especially if he is going to punch the ball mainly

Sure, he could have done it better on their first goal. But our other players need to stand up for Vic and not allow them to get contact with him. Someone need to step in between Vic and their player. Because Vic can shove our player into their player as much as he like. If we do that, it allows Vic to catch balls like that. We are too soft.

I'm not saying he should look for them, btw. And I do think he can do much better in these situations.

But getting pushed when you are in the air, or trying to jump... I'm not sure how one could not end up on the ground.

I would have seen where you are coming from if the cross was actually aimed at Brantwaithe, but it's not. The ball travels to the centre of the box, where Cuti heads it. Vic is positioned to react to that situation.

He then only has time to move along the line, and not out from it. AND he has both Brantwaithe and Tarkowski unmarked in front of him.

Not on Vicario at all, in my book. Absolutely awful defending though.

The thing is it was a foul, but it's been apparent long before City FA Cup match that he tries his best to avoid a body collision at all costs. This works to his detriment because once VAR sees the replay (usually in slow mo) they will never see it as enough to overturn.

BUT we should also NOT IGNORE that he was way more commanding in the second half and came out well on anything in the box (bar the goal, which is 50/50 ; one of those you look back and think next time I'll fling myself into the collision).

I agree as a unit and coaching staff we have to work on this.

He has to be stronger and stop looking for fouls. Thought he would learn last week but didn’t. Lacked a bit of bravery for the second goal as well. Teams are going to go to the bully tactics now against us on free kicks and corners.

If a team wants to put the corner on top of him, would it work to start a yard or two inside the goal and then come out? Not a GK by trade (obviously) but it might let him get some momentum to jump into the ball.

This! Need rob birch to be preparing him better in training for this kind of eventuality

They are dropping the ball on top of him, and his handling in that situation is getting found out. He punches, pushes, or flaps at it. He will improve, just as De Gea did when he first came to the league. Until that happens, our defenders need to protect him better in the physical battles.

Feels really naive and almost amateur to not have not addressed it. Annoyed me especially to have allowed it today for the whole first half without doing anything to change the pattern.

I think it's safe to say teams have found his weakness. He's gonna need more protection from our CBs because this will become a regular occurrence if we're not careful.

How about the Ref and VAR doing their jobs and not allowing the deliberate fouls on our Goalkeeper ?

Agreed. Ange needs to have a word with him. For starters that would mean less complaining about being fouled.

He will never be an elite keeper unless he can learn to dominate the box.

It’s his first season in English football though, so hopefully he will get to grips with it soon.
