Because then we are in the same boat as this season with lo celso having to play every game.

It's not rocket science that if you take one amazing player out and replace him with an amazing player then you are as you were.

NDOMBELE is Dembele.

So effectively we have just replaced 2 players that have left and not actually improved our squad depth at all.

This is where you’re wrong - they’re actually different people.

And luckily you’re not charged with any rocket science as your logic is unbelievably simplistic. “Amazing” isn’t a quality you can measure in a player, taking out whatever is deemed “amazing” about Eriksen and adding different “amazing” qualities that compliment our style more - you’re not “as you were”.

Like for like I think Maddison is the closest to Eriksen.
Madison created over 100 chances for Leicester last season by far the best of any other player . This is premier league stats only.
I would be amazed if he wasn’t at least on ours and a few other top 6 wish lists.

Have to say that’s quite a feet for a player in his 1st season in the premier league. Especially playing for a mid table side.

Just seen Herc’s post. Wow! £80m and even more :-o that we are looking ready to drop that kind of money.

I haven’t really seen enough La Liga this season to comment with an insight but the boy must be seriously good and Clearly more highly rated than the young English talent

Crazy what you get for £80m now also. Seems like that should get you the best on the planet.

The world transfer record has been over 200m for a couple of years mate.

If eriksen goes . Then bar sissoko and winks we need a new midfield. Lamela dier and wanyama can all go . Skipp needs a loan

Definitely looking at needing 3 new midfielders
Even if Dier might not be able to contribute enough to be a starter, he can play in three positions and is way too useful to let go. Think we would be mad to do so. Though I think his future might be in CB. I think we need two or three midfielders as well. Depending on what we will do further up the pitch.

I'd keep Lamela unless we can find better. Yes he has had problems with injuries but his energy is still useful from the bench. Priority is Eriksen replacement, a deeper midfielder with guile, a deeper defensive midfielder and at least one new right back if not two. Maybe someone in CB if Dier insists on being a midfielder but as long as Sanchez and Foyth develop I actually think we will be ok there. So we are talking about 4 to 6 signings, anymore it could destabilize our squad.

Lo Celso for me fits the bill, can play in lots of different positions, is still developing and has that energy. For me we need to sort this out as quickly as possible.

80m makes me very worried tbh. Of course i want us to spend big but 80m on a player who has overall limited experience. I hope we get this right and he signs and goes on to be the player we hope.
Your talking about somebody making a significant improvement on the pitch and contribution for 80m

Fingers crossed.

This ignores the emergence of Sissoko as a genuine first-choice quality central midfielder. He's effectively slotted in as the Dembele replacement, so adding Ndombele would give us the necessary squad depth at the No. 8 position.

I do agree though that replacing Eriksen with Lo Celso would still leave us short of creativity. I think Lamela is capable of filling the remit of the second-choice playmaker but we have learned over and over and over again that we cannot put ourselves in a position of needing to rely on his fitness. I think replacing both Eriksen and Lamela is probably a bridge too far for this transfer window, though. IMO that will be the position where we leave ourselves short for next season, as is tradition.

Honestly we need to pay what we need. I suspect that this deal is tied to what we could get for eriksen. If we get 100 mil for him this wouldn't be too bad. In the modern transfer market its hard to get anybody for less than £50m

We need to be brave and get in a creative CM. We don't need a like for like replacement, we need to tweek the way we play.

I really dont understand it when people turn to comparing player x with player y and all that nonsence. Teams evolve, change characteristics and most importantly dynamics.

Eriksen going and somebody like lo celso and n dombele will see us play a different style. Eriksen has his own skillset but he certainly has his pitfalls.

Thats because it is simple......Eriksen is our main creator, we sell him and replace him with lo celso then we have 1 main creator.

Not sure what bit of this you lads are finding difficult to grasp.

Though he may well have been indispensible this season, Sissoko has so many limitations to his game that he should only be considered a squad player.
Another player we need to upgrade to reach the levels we want.

Well we're in for Ndombele which will probably relegate Sissoko to exactly the role you're describing.

Sissoko has just been selected in the fucking Champions League squad of the season. I'd suggest that there's never been a time in the entire 137 year history of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club when a player would have received an honour such as that and been deemed not good enough for an important role the following season. He may not be first choice for us in an ideal world, but Sissoko has clearly proven his worth.

Sissoko absolutely has a role to play at the club, a very big one being a part of the squad going into next campaign when we will once again be challenging on all fronts. It's tough with the teams we face but that needs to be the aim and Moussa is not just worthy of being a part of that, he's absolutely necessary for it.

55-60 games a season, we need reinforcements but Moussa will still be starting a few few of those, he's a very important cog
