For those that think he has completely lost it, he still has more goal threat than some of the players starting or coming off the bench ahead of him.

Son has been just as poor as Bale since his purple patch ended but he still starts every match to play his way back into form.

Give the man a level playing field for fuck sake. Bergwijn, Son, Lucas and Lamela (who was actually our best player after Hugo last night) are not doing anything to justify the complete lack of opportunity Bale is being to develop a rhythm.

Totally agree with this. I like Bergwijn and can accept a lack of end product if we are winning and playing well. Son deserves to play himself into form based on his performances this season. Lucas and Lamela have been given numerous opportunities and are inconsistent at best. Neither has much in the way of end product either.

Bale (and Dele) both have the ability to create and score goals but rather than give them a chance and change the system if needed, Jose has marginalised them both.

If Bale and Dele had both been used in our last 10 matches instead of Bergwijn and Sissoko I can pretty much guarantee we would have more points than we have now. At the very least, we would be no worse off.

We would also know whether or not either player can still contribute as both would have been given a fair chance.

I would include Vinicius in this too, but not to such an extent as he is very much a work in progress.

Bale is another player who we are hailing as the man to come in and save this team just like Dele completely forgetting that when they've played they've been equally as shit as the players who are playing in their places now.

The last time Dele consistently played league football for us, last season, he ended up with a 1 in 2 output for goals and assists.

Bale has yet to play consistently for us.

Apart from Kane, not one of the forwards who’ve played regularly since the Arsenal win have done anything to justify getting this much more playing time than those two. Not if you’re doing an eye test, not if you’re using stats.

Yeah, I'm completely on the same page here. I don't think he's justified the abuse he gets at all. Its bizarre to me why people are almost actively looking to dig him out.

When you play this version of Bale, you need to spend the majority of the game in the opposition's half. He isn't a counter attacking player any longer. Therefore Levy was silly to believe that bringing him back under Jose would work. He needs to be in a team that pin the opposition back for spells as you need him to be on the ball in and around the area.

The problem is that when we do look to use more possession (vs Sheff Utd/Leeds) he isn't on the pitch.

As is the case with all attackers, they need to feel they can get scoring opportunities and need to have multiple to have an effect.

Son's ability to exploit space allows him to get goalscoring opportunities but they are still limited. Asking this version of Bale to be able to do the same is just not applicable.

Also, when we do get the ball into the final third, we don't shift it quick enough, therefore Bale doesn't get that little bit of space he has been afforded in the past. People say he needs to make that himself but look at Kane, even he isn't getting shots in and around the area as much. Most of his goals are coming from counter attacks.

Peak Poch era, Alli, Son, Eriksen & Kane were often shooting in and around the area, you cannot tell me that Bale wouldn't have some success doing this if he had the opportunity to.

Anyone think he’d be doing better under a different system?

I am starting to wonder how much of his playing within himself is to do with the way he is being managed.

Up to now I assumed pretty much all of the problem was with the player. However I'm not sure that assumption stands up to scrutiny any more given the diminishing performance levels of other team members. I think we need to seriously consider the possibility that at least some of the problem may be due to the way he is being coached. To be clear, I don't think he'd be tearing it up in this league even playing under the most favourable system or manager. Nonetheless I also don't think it's fanciful to suppose he might be playing much better than he currently is.

watching him laugh with his teammates before heading out onto the pitch yesterday made me think of when mark corrigan on peep show said 'you won't be laughing when the student loan repayments start, buddy'

i was thinking, 'you won't be laughing when you're back in madrid playing no football, buddy'

Picking up that salary for another year? I beg to differ.

I would gladly start him over Bergwijn. The chances of Bale scoring is still so much higher than jogging Bergwijn. And at least Bale can hit some free kicks.

How the hell we can bring Moura on over Bale when we need a goal is beyond belief really. I saw mentioned a while back about asking who he should be playing instead of. I think he has a few fair answers to that now. You could ask who deserves a run in the team over Bale at the moment. Just give the guy a run in the team, if it doesn't work out then so be it we'll be no worse off than we are now.

I can understand why he didn't start against Chelsea, but if he doesn't start against West Brom then you'd assume that he won't get a chance against anyone.

Football.London’s Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has shed some light on the behind the scenes conflict concerning Gareth Bale at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Bale’s loan return to the north London club from Real Madrid has not exactly been stellar, with the Welshman only playing sporadically for Jose Mourinho’s side this term, as he has been sidelined through injury for a couple of spells during the seas

WHAT HAS GOLD SAID ABOUT BALE’S ‘WEIRD’ SITUATION?
In a tweet sharing his article, Gold said that Bale’s current situation at the north London club is a ‘weird’ one. In that article, the journalist explained that Bale is ‘a very awkward topic’ at Spurs at present, perhaps due to his loan return not going quite as smoothly as all associated with the Lilywhites had hoped it would.
Gold then shed light on some behind the scenes conflict at Tottenham regarding Bale, with the journalist revealing that there are two clashing views on the Welshman in north London right now.

He explained that one group believes there is still a top-quality player in Bale and ‘he’s just got to find his rhythm.’ Gold explained that this group believes Bale could be a key man for the Lilywhites in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.

However, on the other hand, the journalist explained that another section within the club believes that the decision to bring the Wales international back to the Premier League on loan has been ‘a disaster,’ indicating that these people don’t think there’s a great chance Bale will come good this term at all.
