Poch says his rehab tKing him to Rome now. Hard not to put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5.

I don't recall him actually getting injured in a game was it training ground incident? Is he homesick? Angling for move? Need some itk to fill in the gaps!

I took some neg rep for this earlier in the month, but after today's presser definitely suggests there's some underlying issue, can't see how it take two weeks and not be able to diagnose the injury.

Sorry, must have imagined Pochettino talking about a hip injury every week for the last 2 months.

Real shame. In all honesty though, he would join Son and Sissoko on the bench at the moment.

I'm sure some grains of truth will eek out over the next few weeks.

I get where @Basil Brush and @spursfan77 could reach that conclusion. However, Pochettino still isn't a 'master' of English. Listening to him and reading the quotation, are 2 different things.

I can imagine Pochettino would be frustrated with the injury, I can imagine Lamela is probably more frustrated than anyone on the planet over his injury. If the poor lad has some family worries, Pochettino will be doing all he can to make sure he is supported by the club. I think he will be very good like that, in terms of player welfare.

Yes, the player who arguably works harder than anyone else in the team has started slacking when it comes to recovering from injury.

Not sure he's slacking, but if he's not in a great place mentally then it may be impacting on his physical recovery. Willingness to play through the pain barrier etc.

It's all just conjecture and speculation, but whatever is going on it's not good news.

Come on! Yes the line up to now has been hip injury but today he said they still haven't identified the problem and suggested it was mental rather than physical.

Sounds like they know what it is:

Pochettino’s assistant, Jesús Pérez, said: “It’s a small problem in Lamela’s hip with a tiny muscle, and the situation didn’t get fixed. It has taken him so long to get back from a simple injury.

Baldissoni: 'Roma need someone ready'
By Football Italia staff

Roma director Mauro Baldissoni confirmed they are looking for “a player who is ready to make the difference” straight away.

The Giallorossi are hunting on the market for a midfielder and have also approached Sassuolo for wide forward Gregoire Defrel.

Considering how well Roma are doing at the moment, is Baldissoni not tempted to do something a little crazy to bolster the squad?

“Something a little crazy is irresponsible and we need to run a club responsibly,” he told Rai Sport.

“We are trying to improve the squad, as we do in every transfer session, and will not change our attitude.

“As our Coach said, it’s important to sign a player who is ready to make the difference during the period coming up. Even one player should be enough.”

I know I know it's probably unrelated as clubs look at dozens of players every window...if Roma has the intention to have him back in anyway, you'd think Roma would at least try to find out if Lamela's interested, given he's still pretty well liked there, and the fact that he's currently right there at their club.

How long did it take to diagnose the broken back? Seemed like that took several months to diagnose.

Feel sorry for the lad, football aside I hope he recovers as a person first and foremost. Hope we give him a massive reception when he does return.

Injuries can often be baffling. I remember Jose Maria Olazabal at the very height of his career have a foot injury that meant he could barely walk. It took nearly two years of treatment and travelling the globe in search of a cure before it was discovered that the issue was a back problem! Now I dont know what is wrong with Lamela but do understand injuries can be far from simple to diagnose
