You can only imagine Barca wanted an option that was too high or we wouldn’t pay the difference in his contract unless he proves himself

The no option makes complete sense if we do sign another CB this window. Though it could be likely if he has a class season then he may choose to move elsewhere. Anyhow, that’s a problem for next summer. Awesome signing!

People shouldn't stress about not having an option, if indeed that's even true.

He's not a global superstar who will almost certainly year it up in the PL. He's a good player who's lost his way a bit, so this is a calculated risk as a signing, and brave of him to try a new adventure and rediscover himself.

Barca don't want him. He hasn't worked out there. If he performs brilliantly for us this year then (1) we've had a great year from him, and (2) there's a good chance he'd want to stay rather than risk going back to Barca where it wasn't working.

Some players just don't work at some clubs. Soldado wasn't a bad player, he was brilliant in Spain; he just was a bad fit for us.
The only annoying thing would be if he plays well for us and gets plaudits, then it’ll take a chunk out of next season’s budget. You would have hoped that some kind of agreement could be found.

Either way though, I’m going to focus on the good in this deal. I’m sure we can sort something sensible next summer if it comes to it, and if we are looking to it’ll be because he had a great season for us.

I don’t use the word ‘astute’ often. In fact that might even be the first time I’ve ever typed it let alone said it. But I see this signing as an astute signing by the club.

Astute.

Astutiola.

Or we want someone else ( like Torres) but need to maybe wait for next window to sign them.

Fully behind him.

I'm expecting 2 of Rondon, Sanchez and Tanganga to go either on loan or permanents.

If that's the case another CB is coming, although not as higher a profile as some are expecting imo.

If so it'll be Tanganga and Rodon.

Good deal for Barca; worst case scenario we pay part of his wages for a year and best case they get a more valuable asset next season.

They are not saying it themselves, they are saying it is reported (by someone else) that there is an option to buy. It's a subtle difference.
Yes...That's literally what I wrote.

We already knew there were reports. Saying the BBC are saying it changed nothing.

Well, if you read it again, it's not 'literally' what you wrote. You literally wrote "BBC saying report [sic] are there IS an option to buy" which doesn't actually make sense and was just confirmation of what we have known for days i.e. that there are reports out there suggesting that we had an option.

Anyway, it's all moot since - as you have said yourself - Barca have confirmed there isn't an option.

Yes, I missed off the "s" by mistake. Sorry about the whole post, mate. Was just posting an article I thought might be useful.
