Embarrasing? Surely a player leaving the club and then wanting to come back again is anything but embarrasing? If we were to try and sign him back and he turned us down, then it probably would be embarrasing. But i dont think its embarrasing at all.

Come on home Chimbomba. We've got them here waiting for you...

After all of Harry's whining about how unbalanced our squad is, which is true, why on earth would we sign someone to the only position in which we are well and truly covered, with Corluka, (Hutton), Gunter, and with Zokora and even Jenas able to play the position to a high level?

Is it because King is definitely finished and Corluka is seen as his replacement at CB? And Hutton is out for the season?

Nah I'm not worried about anyone else. I wonder what people like Hutton (even though he's injured), Gunter and Bent feel when we sell these players to give them their chance and them we sign them again.

I imagine a lot of them will be wondering what kind of board we have. Not that they should be worried about that at all!

I think you've answered your own question.

Hutton is out
Corluka is definately a CB
Gunter isn't ready and whilst he is a good defender doesn't offer much going forward and Harry loves attacking fullbacks.

I genuinely think Harry doesn't think we actually have a proper RB.

I'd forgotton that Chimbo played for us a few times at left back. I also can't remember how good he was there, either.

He didn't quite shine at LB, and sulked about playing there. Better than Bale version 08-09 though!

However, I seem to remember him always playing rather well at CB when called upon. Maybe he liked it because he had to run less than at RB.

Exactly, and re-purchasing Chimbonda because is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a quality centre back to cover Woody and King. 3 mil for Chimbonda means we can play Corluka in the middle and not have to spend a fortune on another centre back!!

Harry the wheeler dealer strikes again:up:

Yes you're correct. Perhaps I should think before I start writing!

I wouldn't mind Chimbonda back. We would 1. Again have the pleasure of hearing Pleat massacre his name on a regular basis. 2. He would provide an outlet for fan rage. Once the inevitable Chimbonda-bashing gets up to speed, it may deflect some criticism from others. 3. Get a pretty good player, in spite of him being a generally dislikable person (although downright lovable compared to his agent)

The only reasons i can think we are getting him in for are that he can play in the uefa cup, can cover LB and poss CB and is gooing to be cheap.

Not sure it's the right move but we are in a terrible situation and need as many options as poss.

I prefer Hutton when he is fit at RB, and watching Corluka at CB reminds me of King...composed on the ball nothing stupid, I think he is not only seen as a cb but our first choice. I'd be well happy if that is the case I think he is awesome

Chimbonda is a decent defender, sure he's been a bit of a bad four letter word beginning with C at times but come on. I for one will welcome the guy back with open arms.

chimbonda should never have been sold in the first place
he can play either left or right back and as much as he is a dickhead he is a quality player and will make the squad stronger
plus he will settle in straight away as he knows the squad
dont see what the problem is re-signing him

update from SSN

Tottenham have moved to offer Chimbonda a return to North London and the right-back is so determined to seal the deal he is prepared to take a cut on his wages.

The player's agent Willie McKay has confirmed Chimbonda is on the verge of agreeing an 18-month deal with an option for a further year and that he has given up better terms at Sunderland to return to Tottenham.

"Pascal is currently undergoing a medical and we are hopeful that the move will be done later today," McKay told skysports.com.

Excited

"Pascal is excited at the prospect of returning to Spurs as he never wanted to leave really in the first place.
"He is so determined to come to Tottenham he is coming back on less money than he was on at Sunderland.

"Pascal always gave 100 per cent when he played for Sunderland, but unfortunately he struggled to settle up there.

"Niall Quinn and Ricky Sbragia has been great about all this and they understood his reasons for looking to leave.

"Niall respects his wishes and respects that he is willing to take a pay cut to leave.

"Pascal is writing off £3million from the contract he was on at Sunderland and he must be only the player in the transfer window prepared to take a pay cut to move."

What's that coming down from the north
Is it Chimbonda
Is it Chimbooooooooooonda

Jokes aside, I think given Hutton's injuries and poor form since the CC win in feb, this is a good signing, especially for the direct improvement it makes to our centreback situation.

Glad he's back...was sorry to see him go to be honest

He always seemed 100% committed on the field (bit suspect off it), and is a dam good fullback!!

Welcome back Chimbo !!!

Great business for Willie McKay! Gets his man to transfer twice in a year, even convincing him to take a cut in wages to do it. Bet McKay doesn't take a cut in his percentage of the transfer fee. Probably lining up another shift for the summer as the ink dries.

Though of course he and Harry are old mates from their transfer probe days together, so maybe just another friendly favour on his part...

"I have nothing to hide," said the agent. McKay also defended his decision to register a race horse in the name of Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp.
"As concerns the appropriately named Double Fantasy, I trained the horse until 2006," said McKay.
"Dandy Nicholls, who is well know to me, asked me to help generate some publicity for him and his yard by transferring the horse into Harry Redknapp's name.
"This was so it could race in Harry's colours and possibly attract other people in the football world to have horses with him."
