It doesn’t look very fun to play in this 523. Compare and contrast how Brighton play and you can see why the players always look so miserable.

In defence of Conte, no coach can stop this rot and reverse it in such a short space of time. It’s become integrated into what we have become under Levy. Antonio confirmed as much last night.

Just a little bump in light of conte’s comments. I started this thread in January 2021. Nothing’s changed has it?
Did they also lacked desire since Jan 2022(last post in this thread before your bump) until yesterday when they were for most of that time 3rd best team in the league during which they made multiple comebacks, or is this another completely boring way of defending Conte?

Agreed.

Our players simply cannot play under any kind of stress or pressure. somebody succumbs and does whatever necessary to relieve said pressure by doing things like throwing the ball into our own net (lloris), red cards, pens or completely unforced errors (Sanchez, dier, Davies) and now even Romero.

this is why we have lost so many semi-finals and finals.

champions league final... concede minutes after kickoff. I could go on

Not everything is a defence of Conte. You don't have to jump two feet in every time you see something you don't agree with

If you've read enough of this forum you'd know he's not in defence of Conte. Just because hes calling out the players doesn't mean he's defending Conte. Everyone is a problem at this club from top to bottom, including the players and they will continue to be long after Conte is gone

Calm down pal.

Agreed. But they are professionals and paid millions of pounds a year to get on with their jobs. They obviously like it enough here to not kick up a fuss and leave but not quite enough to bust a gut every week.

He’s on ignore for a reason. Cheers for your post though, you’re right there.

The only remote chance we have left in getting 4th spot is if the players come out seething and angry and they keep that anger going and take it out on the oppsition to prove Conte wrong (although in Romero's case not so angry so and to launch two footed into opposition players to pick up a red or two yellows).
1. Do I believe that will happen ?
2. Do I believe that this group of players can band together and collectively say to each other and collectively as a group, f*ck you Conte, we're better than this and we won't just say it, we will do it and prove it where it matters, on the pitch ?

In answer to questions 1 and 2 I believe the answer will be a resounding no !

I keep saying this. It's not solely one person or another. It's everyone. Levy, the board, Conte, the players, Paratici and even the fans to some degree.

Doesn't matter what staff or players come in, the mentality doesn't change. You can bring in experienced winners like Perisic and then he is brought down a level. Romero and Lloris two recent World Cup winners. Come back to the club and low and behold they underperform. Neither Jose or Antonio could change the mindset, even though both stressed it enough to us fans that we have be much stronger ourselves.

The whole club needs a re-do.

I saw the thread title and wondered to myself ‘when was this thread started?’ Because it could have been started at any time since the last fekkin century and held true continuously to this day

Too much mediocrity in the squad, some who have been here for years, and honestly believe a lot of them are just comfortable plodding along picking up their wages and securing their financial futures while trotting out the 'we need to work harder' bollocks every now again.

Too many out their who don't have the hunger or desire to actually fight for something of note. No amount of arm waving, finger pointing or coasting under the 'nice guy' tag is going to change that. Just feels like its a job to many of them. Come in, train at a fantastic facility, play at a great new stadium all while picking up a great wage. A lot of them are just winging it if you look at their level of ability and/or attitude and if they were at clubs that are serious about challenging, they'd have been weeded out years ago.

We persist with these type of players for years and the mind-set of accepting mediocrity spreads amongst the squad.

It’s interesting how we look completely disorganised, no one showing for the ball or able to carry it and trigger an attack. Compare that as you say with Brighton and even Sporting Lisbon who play exactly the same set up as ourselves and you can’t get the bloody ball off them. It shows the system can work but we’ve a) got the wrong players for it and b) some of them have a serious lack of application.

I think the players just do not believe in this system and method of play.
Setting up to play most of the game in your own half is madness.

Also getting in a position where you dont know who the coach is gonna be in at the end of the season is far from ideal as far as motivation goes.
Idiotic predicament to get ourselves in, AGAIN.

The mindset of accepting mediocrity also spreads amongst the fans. How many on here alone have this weird obsession or attachment with players like Dier/Davies/Tanganga. Then there was Mason and Winks in years gone by and to some extent Skipp although he is getting better tbf. This ‘he’s one of our own’ bollocks really grates me too. We shouldn’t be protecting players as fans just because they’re apparently one of our own. Fuck the sentiment and kick them out of the club if they can’t or won’t perform. We’re too lenient and this weak pansy attitude needs to be changed quick time.

Our players completely lack it and have done for years.

I watch the Liverpool players lose the ball and there is then 4 or 5 of them rushing to the ball to get it back. Ours just amble towards it hoping to get it back. Sometimes making no challenge whatsoever.

It’s not just tonight either. Think back to every time Spurs have let you down and you pretty much can point the finger at the players’ lack of desire to compete at every turn.

They just don’t have it I’m afraid. Poch couldnt get it out of them and neither can Mourinho. I really doubt there is a manager out there who could. There is just no desire, hunger whatever you want to call it.
Sonny is a great example of this attitude ( there are others). He just will not get stuck in. Watch him challenge. He is almost scared of getting injured or something and completely bottles it with sticking a boot in to win a ball. Aside from Romero they’re flakey wimps to a man.

We seemed much more United as a team before Ventrone passed. The team doesn’t look like it has the fight in it now and Conte doesn’t have his good cop to his bad cop. I don’t think he has the ability to hype them up or fix the mentality and has been a part of the mentality issues with our team.

I don't care if the players are enjoying the football or not. This isn't sunday league football or a kickabout with mates.
