I wouldn't mind sticking with Mason if there was a scenario where the right target wasn't available.

Tottenham might need a full rebuild and the priority might not be getting the best coach.

If we decide that the priority is to sell 10-15 players that will take more than 1 window. It might be the right idea to have Mason do the best with what he has and let him coach while we nuke the squad. Then go for someone A-star next year.

I know thats not nice and setting up a young coach to fail isnt good but we might have to be ruthless to set the club back on the right course.

Next summer with expectations lower, a smaller squad with some youngsters around might be a better foundation for the top coach we want to deal with instead of this fucking mess of a squad thats too big and has no value in it
I don't think we have a better opportunity than right now to appoint a great manager to take this club forward (caveat being sufficiently backed).

Nagelsmann
Slot
Gallardo

Available or making themselves available.

Let's be real, if Mason is chosen it's because it's not only the cheap option but also someone who the board believe can see as a Yes man who won't be kicking up a stink at lack of transfer funds.

I've come around to giving it to Ryan Mason on the proviso he can get us into Europe AND his best mate Harry Kane is willing to sign a new deal.

We've tried these managers who think they are doing us a favour and then play mind numbingly dull football trying to sneak a result.

Get a top Director of Football in and let Ryan coach/manage the team. Just like Arthur Rowe and Bill Nicholson, Mason is Tottenham through and through. He's got the necessary football licences, he knows the club, senior players, young prospects and the supporters yearning for success through and through.

People will say he's not got the experience but he's played for the club and coached at various levels.

He's the project manager we need.
Ryan needs to go and be an assistant at a lower level club with an experienced manager to learn the trade and develop his tactics/philosophy. No way should he be managing Spurs full time now

What's the point of doing it at a lower level club after doing it at Spurs under Conte and Mourinho? He's been coaching for 5 years and got UEFA pro license. His next step should be as manager wherever that is.

Rightly so that he should be considered as part of the ‘interview process’, Mason ticks a lot of boxes 📦 however regardless of too inexperienced or not, the issue for me would be that if he was given the job and started off badly then the fans might turn fairly quickly and the narrative would be “Levy could’ve got Naglesman or Slot and he made a huge mistake going for Mason and now we are half way through the season and the pool of available managers is terrible compared to last summer”.

So FOR THAT REASON as the dragons 🐉 on the den would say ‘I’m out’ re. mason.

But I do think people just blindly dismissing him entirely are at times being a little OTT with their posts and looking past some real positives that he’d bring to the role, now or hopefully in a few years time:
•Knows the clubs culture/DNA
•Would focus on promoting and developing youth players which is important to us having an identity
•Would look to implement a possession based high intensity attractive style of play which the fans and players would enjoy
•The players respect and like him
•He’s a very positive character
•He’s shown he can motivate the group well and so far has already shown he’s good tactically
•He loves the club and would do anything to help the club succeed so the job would never be a stepping stone for him
•He’s very good friends with Kane

But yea for me although he deserves to be ‘considered’ and ‘on the list’, I don’t think this is the right time for him to be given the job, but of course if he did end up getting it I imagine the club and fans would get fully fully behind it.
His recent comments on the academy were abysmal. I did not believe that ex-academy coach could say the things like that. I hope it was his moment of bewilderment.

Would people take Mason if it meant Kane signed a new contract?

would.

We aren’t winning a meaningful trophy anytime soon so I instead want to, hopefully, say with pride that the top goalscorer of the premier league did it all while playing for my team.

(How sad is it that we can’t even dare to dream for team glory these days...)

If we're being real, we'd be in a better position if Mason was managing us for the past four years than two "winners" and Nuno inbetween. I know this because Arsenal basically did the same.

The problem with hiring Mason is that it is once again reactionary. If he was trusted by the board they would have given him the job straight after Conte got sacked, or even before this if they really believed in him. Nothing against Mason personally, but appointing him now makes me think we are going nowhere long term in terms of club strategy.

Can we save another 3 pages of comments and just agree:

~70% of us think its too soon for Mason and he needs to cut his teeth in the lower leagues

~30% of us think he could do a job and it would be nice to have a coach that loves the club

And neither side will really get on board with the other sides line of thinking

He is in there

I really hope he does become our full time manager one day but he needs to go to the Championship and make his mistakes there. The last thing we need is another managerial fuck up and I'd hate to see Mason in a bad position at Spurs because of a lack of experience.

Levy did rather make Stellini interim six weeks ago than give Mason the gig. One win, and two good halfs of football together with good press conferences changes that? I very much doubt it.

Love Mason by the way. Really hope he’s our permanent manager one dag.

If Mason is appointed as the First Team Coach or Manager then Levy really deserves any criticism he gets.

A number of better options are available and if Levy truly thinks Mason is the way to go then he really is out of touch with football and should never be allowed to make a managerial decision ever again.

Mason has shown absolutely nothing in either of his stints as caretaker to prove that he is good enough for the job on a permanent basis.

Pleased to hear it as it backs up my impression that he's got ability and a good future in front of him but I'm sure if it is him come July it's because we failed on our main targets and probably points to the start of a new five year project with him learning as he goes along.

Not sure how he is supposed to do that in such a short time. Good comebacks against Utd and scouse, dropped Dier, made good tactical changes, won against palace. If he has a good end to season he can’t do anymore
