how exactly does a journalist get made redundant??
Without wishing to appear facetious, he's not being made redundant from being a journalist. He's (was) an employee of The Times and is being made redundant from being their Chief Sports writer.

Anyway, Newcastle. Huge game. Must win etc. COYS.

I forgot villa play Arsenal on Sunday so yeah 3 points here would be big as you'd expect villa to drop points.

Not very confident however.... don't like a 12:30 kick-off.

Newcastle have 13 players out so we really should be winning this one.
Their defense is badly affected with injuries but they are still strong in attack with Isack at CF and with pace outside with Gordon and Barnes. Their midfield is also still strong m. Probably Guimeres, Willock( is he injured)or Anderson and Longstaff. Overall they can cause us problems especially with pace in behind our FBs but we should be able to get some joy from attacking their defense.

Last time I went up to St James Park there was a big Geordie bouncer managing the lift up to the high levels in the away end, now anyone who's been knows that they stick us up in the gods and so after a 3-4hr train and a few beers me and my mate thought lets get the lift... well no this 'geordie bouncer' had other ideas and in his thick Geordie accent told us "I'M NOT ASKIN YA...I'M TELLIN YA... USE THE STAIRRRSSS" meanwhile letting some pretty Georgie lasses under his bulging biceps and straight into the lift :ROFLMAO: we then proceeded to climb the stairs to our seats and spotted Ledley King a few rows ahead of us so lots of King songs and a bit of chat, lovely bloke and then we proceeded to lose 5-1 to 10 man Newcastle (y) safe to say that was a long journey home and I've not been back since.

Lets hope tomorrow is more fruitful.
Don’t you just love those long journey’s home from there.😥

I think it might be to an extent. Howe’s a good manager and will know what works against us, plus he has a depleted defence which will be pretty slow if Livramento is out. Would love it if they came out swinging but I’m not sure they will.

agreed with this, wouldn’t surprise me if they sit back, and look to hit us on the counter with Isak, Barnes and Gordon

For an away game, 12 30 KO is absoluteky the best time

5 30 KO at SJP would be boucing.

Their midfield isnt that strong, theyve been weaker since Joe Linton got injured, and Longstaff has been playing with a toe injury.

Willock is a big doubft for the game.

Its really just their attack, which looks strong.

I have a good feeling about today. We've been frustrating to watch recently but I think we are close to really clicking. Maybe today is the day.

I think Ange might make some changes. I'd like to see Bentancur and Lo Celso start today.

I never like this fixture. Something about heading above the 55th parallel messes with us, and there's always a drubbing in the air. 7-1's and 5-1's and the like.

Plus my cousin's head into WhatsApp and start giving me grief. They never forgive us for that Jason Dozzell goal in 96

This could be anything today. West Ham showed us the way, think it’ll boil down to who takes their chances. Barnes, Isak, Wilson, Murphy, they all seem to catch fire against us.

Don’t understand the clamour for Hodgepodge to start. Fks up too often. Much less risk bringing him on as a ‘finisher’ for the last half hour tops

Who's Hodgepodge? Hojbjerg? Has he fucked up more than Bissouma lately? He's come on and closed games and helped turned them around this season.

Last 2 games Maddison has bitten when he’s been kicked a lot. Lucky to get away with that punch. Bruno is South American and they like a wind up. Really don’t need him sent off.

Interesting point in the Guardian 10 things to look out for here.

In summary Guimarães must try really hard not to get booked but if does he is better off getting another booking and being sent off as it means a 1 game ban instead of 2

Should Bruno Guimarães be booked against Tottenham at St James’ Park the Newcastle and Brazil midfielder faces a dilemma. Given that Guimarães is on nine yellow cards, a 10th would trigger an automatic two-game suspension, depriving Eddie Howe of a key player for forthcoming games at Crystal Palace and at home to Sheffield United. Alternatively, Guimarães could make sure he collected a second yellow card, ideally late in stoppage time, and be sent off. In such a red card scenario, the sanction would merely be a one-game ban. Considering that Guimarães has managed to avoid a booking in 10 games since mid-January the best solution would be to extend that run to 11 matches and then relax in the knowledge that the accumulated bookings slate will be wiped clean after the Premier League’s 32nd game – Tottenham’s visit to Newcastle. Yet if the Brazilian transgresses do not be surprised if he follows Anthony Gordon’s example.Gordon has remained on eight bookings, despite acquiring his ninth and 10th yellow cards in his team’s recent 4-3 home win over West Ham. The collection of the second, deep in stoppage time, dictated that yellow became red and, despite Gordon being sent off, the England winger stayed on eight bookings. The current rules certainly seem ripe for manipulation. Louise Taylor
