Not for the first time this season our opposition at the WHL have failed to deal with our quick pass and move stuff. Read that they only committed nine fouls during the game. This was almost as low as the Aston Villa total at the lane in another game where we totally outplayed our opponents. Just as on that occasion I pose the question "how come the coach doesn't make his team revert to a more basic stop them approach?" Newcastle only had one player booked as we played around them like traffic cones having high 60% possession. Has the EPL changed that much that getting stuck in is rarely an option now? Not bemoaning it but am amazed that in these games Mcleish and Pardew both allowed us to turn the match to something resembling non-contact training matches:shrug:

I was surprised Guthrie wasn't throwing himself about more, the their midfield couldn't even get close enough to foul.

Newcastle will be OK though, not having Cabaye and Tiote is basically like having the heart ripped out of the team, we know what that's like.

Which, kinda, suggests why a lot of our opponents are going down the kick them off the field route - usually, like with Liverpool at Anfield, and Stoke at the Chris Foy Stadium, with the officials blessing

To be fair I'm not sure how they only had one player booked, Coloccini went unpunished despite a number of fouls, one of which was knee high on Parker, and later petulantly throwing the ball away.

Whilst you make a valid point that other teams have come to WHL and played dirty and not lost by such margins*, in this case I think it was as much down to Newcastle missing their two most important central midfielders, and defending pretty woefully.

*except Liverpool, who played dirty and still got thrashed.

Yeah they couldn't get near us, in actual fact theres only two games where we have have been kicked about Stroke away and Wolves at home, dropped points to them, but that was because of crap referring in both games. We got kicked agaisnt Liverpool at home but the Ref did his job and everyones knows what happened. I also agree the league has got a little less physical and this suits are game more, having Swanse and norwich come up has been good, hopefully we get rid of Bolton and Wolves, another two physical teams going down will be good for us.
