I think the discussions regarding wembley would only amount to anything should we be lucky enough to be playing Champions League football. I think that Stadium MK is a done deal and to be honest, that sacrifice is minimal when we see the new stadium we will get for our club.

Stadium MK for league and cup
Wembley Stadium for Champions League (like Arsenal back in 1998)

The big news this week is that it'll be 1 season and MK, not 2. That's really positive.

A whole season at Wembley wouldn't be allowed for local resident agreements. The most we could hope for is about 4 games Manu, Arse, Chelsea, Liverpool... oh and that years FA cup semi-final and final.

You are only allowed one home league ground a season under EPL rules.

It's either MK or Wembley, and yes - local by-laws prevent Wembley being used for more than a certain number of events a year (the cap is 20 or something).

2017-18 we will be playing at MK

remember that a lot of spurs fans live to the north of london in herts, essex, cambs etc. For them MK is probably easier than getting to white hart lane. If really are only going to be squatting there for one season, then I don't think its that big a deal, especially if the club provides subsidised transport.

My concern with moving away from London is more about the damage to heritage. We'll face plenty of abuse from our London rivals during and after it. Similar to what we give to arsenal for woolwich etc. if we have no choice then fair enough but I would sooner play at palace than MK. Palace have shared their stadium on plenty of occasions, why not them as an example?

I couldnt give two fucks what all the other nomads thinks.

The fact is, moving to MK would probably make games very difficult for me to attend (from Essex) but I see the bigger picture and want the club to do whatever is economically best to ensure the greatest platform for Spurs to be competitive for the next 100 years. I want us to be in the new stadium as quick as possible at as little cost as possible. Levy knows what he is doing on this one. Even Baldini cant fuck this up for him

Am I the only one who is concerned that we will play CL at Stadium MK. That would be embarrassing to an extent. Although, there's a great incentive for the players next season- get CL football and play against the best teams in the world at WHL for the last time/season.

Rules can be changed. isn't there one about moving near a League club ala Spammers on Orient territory?

Anyone that thinks a season away from white Hart lane for the sake of a massive, world class, top of the line stadium to build our entire future on, is a bad idea should probably stay as far away from our club aa humanly possible.
We don't need your kind holding this great club back in the dark ages.

MK stadium will only be 5.5k smaller than WHL by the time we are using it (it is being upgraded for this autumn's rugby WC)

That's not the point I'm making- it would just be horrible to see us play against Europe's best at a stadium that is not ours.

Imo there's another big pro for the club which I'm sure Levy has thought of.

Between London and Birmingham/Leicester there are no big PL clubs. Any club that makes their home in that area, even if only for a year has the opportunity to sweep up an entire generation of young fans from Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire etc.

Spurs home territory already spreads throughout Hertfordshire and parts of Essex. Spreading further north and west could expand our fan base massively.

Londoners are so insular, it's really funny.

If it's not on the tube line its Outer Mongolia.

Brighton had to play in bliming Gillingham remember as part of the sacrifice to get their new stadium

Also I remember Paul Barber talking about our season at Milton Keynes about 7 years ago, so it's not like it's a big surprise

I gave your post a "Winner" rating not just because I agree with it, but because of your exemplary use of "bliming".

(Though truth be told, a double m is probably called for.)

As I recall it, the restriction is in the original planning consent for Wembley Stadium, not in any local regulation. That could, in theory, be varied by Brent Council, but it would require an application for a temporary planning consent and I reckon the council would face a barrage of hostility from the very residents whose pressure induced them to introduce the restrictions in the first place.

I have read in several places, including one article in a broadsheet, that the restriction on the number of events only applies if the attendance exceeds 50,000 and that closing the upper tier reduces the attendance below that level. The club's continuing efforts to play there may be linked to that.

We'd only need one home ground in the league, we would be free to use a different stadium for cup games. We could use Wembley for the league games and somewhere further for the cups, which might not even be necessary. That said, if the cap was 20, it'd mean that Wembley would only be allowed to one use. The FA might have to play some more games around the country which I think is a good idea anyway, especially for friendlies. If it's 20 per year, even better because we'd only need 9 in the first year and 10 in the second

Edit..........although this is 'doing the rounds' now, I've just noticed it's from 2009. I wonder if the plans have changed much in essence?

Oh my god, only spurs fans could moan about the "inconvenience" of having to play games away from WHL for a year while a new world class stadium is built. Its taken years of planning, fighting in courtrooms and cost untold amounts of money but we are finally within touching distance yet some people are still moaning. Jesus wept get a grip FFS, if it means getting the new stadium built id take a travelling roadshow across America and Asia for a year. Its Milton Keynes not bloody Manchester!!

For some of us it's just the principle of Milton Keynes. How would we feel if it was Tottenham they'd destroyed instead of Wimbledon and now another big club were going to come in and pay them a wad of cash to use their stadium when there appear to be other options?
