Tottenham are preparing to announce that their home game against Arsenal next month will be moved to Wembley amid growing concerns that they may be forced to stay at the national stadium for the rest of the season. The club are confident that their new ground will be ready before the end of the campaign, but will not confirm an opening date in their update to fans this week, and a number of factors are conspiring against them as they seek to finalise their move to their redeveloped stadium.

The amount of own goals IF that is true...I can accept it not being ready for the scum game and if we cant do the crystal palace game then just announce Wembley for the rest of the season and move in to NWHL for preseason.

The club wont win the PR spin anyway. I'm in no doubt that they are trying their absolute best to be in soon enough. It just starts to look so amateur after the umpteenth update.

Would have been very surprising for us to confirm an opening date when we've got one game we seem to have run out of time on after the latest delay, not putting out our scheduled announcement last week, and with the next two after that uncertain to take place. Maybe we'll get an update on Thursday after Brighton's cup tie.

Tottenham were always reluctant to open the new stadium for Arsenal’s Premier League visit on March 2 due to the potentially volatile nature of the north London derby. They are running out of time to arrange the opening fixure, with the FA Cup draw and complaints from other clubs causing further problems.
The club had been working towards opening against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on March 16, but losing to Roy Hodgson’s side in the FA Cup the weekend before last has complicated matters, because that weekend clashes with the FA Cup quarter-finals. Palace have been drawn against League One Doncaster in the fifth round so may be otherwise engaged that weekend, meaning the Tottenham game will have to be postponed.
Tottenham’s next game is the visit of Brighton on April 6, but to compound matters that is FA Cup semi-final weekend and Chris Hughton’s side are also still in the competition. Brighton travel to West Brom in an FA Cup fourth-round replay on Wednesday, with Derby awaiting the winners in the fifth round.
If Brighton reach the semi-finals Tottenham will not have another home game until the middle of April, when Huddersfield are due to visit, leaving them with five home matches to fit in before the end of the season. A number of clubs are understood to be unhappy about Tottenham announcing their venues for matches on an ad hoc basis, a grievance most strongly articulated by Cardiff manager Neil Warnock last month, but the Premier League remains supportive given the complexity and cost of their stadium project and the benefits it will eventually yield. Any decision to make Tottenham spend the rest of the season at Wembley would have to be taken by the Premier League board.

Tottenham invited 1,000 fans to attend a screening of the Super Bowl in the East Stand last night, but need to stage two larger test events at the new stadium before they can confirm an opening date.

As I keep repeating in this thread, unless Brighton somehow get to the FA Cup semi final, the opener is nailed on to be the Brighton game on Sat 6th April.

I know this to be so because I CAN’T FUCKING GO :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

As I have posted a couple of times in this thread, the marginal costs of each extra match at Wembley mean that the club will have powerful reasons to move home at the earliest possible moment.

We don't keep all of the ticket receipts at Wembley. We pay a seven-figure rent per match. We have to bear the fixed costs of the new stadium regardless. We forgo rental income on the concessions in the new stadium, because they can't start trading. The club is also losing revenue and incurring costs every time they refund more of the season tickets and issue new tickets at Wembley.

And we cannot pursue a claim for damages against the contractors for any period after the stadium has been approved for use. The club will try to recover as much as possible of the extra costs incurred, from the contractual opening date in September until the place is finally ready, but that won't apply if it's ready and the club says "well, we're going to finish the season at Wembley anyway".

So I reckon they'll move back to N17 as soon as it's approved, even if there are only a few matches left in the season.

Why do clubs care if they play at Wembley or our new stadium? I don't get it, it's an away game for them no matter what and arguably for us too if at Wembley. Just moaning for the sake of moaning if you ask me.

That's a good point, so if the stadium is ready and we decide not to use it we will have no case to recover costs because they will argue we didn't want it earlier anyway and so we didn't incur any costs due to them?
See thats the kind of argument for being in this season I can understand with Levy.

The case law on liquidated damages is a bloody mess, but I think there would be a strong case to claim damages up to the point where the stadium is signed off as ready. But if we then refrain from using it after that point, there would be little chance of claiming costs incurred after the date when the stadium had been signed off.

Some of this isn't just about cash. THFC's balance sheet will not have been adjusted to write off any of these extra costs. They will be showing them as recoverable - and therefore as debtors/assets - until any claim fails or is settled. Then they will adjust the balance sheet and write back any claims or write off any irrecoverable costs. That's likely to be a few years away - well after we're enjoying the revenue from playing in a 62k stadium and ideally after we have refinanced the development on favourable long-term rates.

The argument is that we're BETTER at Wembley, and moving to the new stadium may take some time to get used to. Warnock got us at Wembley and thinks his awful side will be at a disadvantage because their competition for relegation, Burnley and Palace, may get us at the new stadium.

As soon as we can we must get into the new stadium it will give the team such a lift for a chance (slim as it maybe) to go for the Prem Title. If any of you on here go to the games regularly you can feel the morgue of an atmosphere. I am fed up with mingling with day trippers and tourists with their fucking mobiles constantly panning the match. I want to go to a game and know who I am standing next to and that they are singing with the same passion as me to lift our team. If we are in with a shout of the title it will not be Warnock moaning it will be Klopp and the rest of the top six saying its not fair. They know it will give Spurs a huge boost. I genuinely believe if injuries go our way being in our new stadium it could win us the league.
