Is this something that is deep rooted within our fans? When did it come about? I know we've had plenty of false dawns over the years but we've also had some wonderful achievements as well. We're no longer stuck in mid table and continue to finish in the top 6 even though we're not mega rich and the league is tougher than ever.

Are we ever going to believe in this club again? It just seems that every season I read nothing but negativity from our fans. We've finally got a great manager who is young and still improving. The best academy set up we've ever had. The best training facilities for them to work on and a new state of the stadium on the way. Our team (with the youngest average age) last season finished in our highest ever position. We have Champions League football for only the second time. Yet still there is more negative talk about the club.

I think the transfer window brings the absolute worst of it from the fans. It's like a bunch of petulant kids crying over what presents they wanted for Christmas and didn't get. It seems many of our fans have an agenda. If you post something positive about being happy with the work we've done in the window people disagree. Why? Because I'm being optimistic about the club I love? Fuck you. I believe in this club. Regardless of what squad we have come 11pm tonight I will be behind them. I couldn't give a shit about players who play at other clubs that we may have been linked with. The only players that matter are the ones that represent the club.

You get people complaining about selling players who they also moan about in the match threads. Mason is shit one minute and then hang on why have sold him? People are too obsessed with what we could have they overlook what we actually do have. This is the best position the club has been in since the Premier League era started. Sorry if it sounds like I'm writing with a judgemental tone because that's not really my intension. I just wish this place was a lot more positive considering what a great club this is.

On one thread somebody was asking how we could ever 'do a leicester' when we are not willing to spend big.

I initially put it down to the instant gratification generation, but a lot of the fans are old enough to know better.

Some of our fans belong on Arsenal Fan TV.

I'm not sure how far back it really goes. Considering we've had great success winning trophies in the past I don't know if it was like this back then. I can just imagine people complaining back in the day about how Bill Nic didn't get any backing in the transfer window. If MacKay or Blanchflower get injured we're fucked. Or our squad of 17 players is far too small to win anything.

The internet amplifies emotions, positive and negative. 20 years ago we'd all have been sitting here blissfully clueless about what was going on.

tbh I don't think a lot of the ITK helps...people take it as gospel so when a lot of it, inevitably, doesn't materialise the easily disappointed just start hammering away on their keyboards for us all to read.
I look forward to when the kids all go back to school, I get the impression a lot of posters are about 15.

this is bang on the money. People start drawing up formations and team sheets of our side based on some tenuous rumour, and when it doesnt happen the perception is we are 'weaker' than this imaginary side they have drawn up in their head.

Some of the most desolate posters are 47.

The internet also encourages anonymity.
A lot of the posts made on here, if said in a pub, would get the posters either punched in the face or laughed out of the pub.
People hide behind it, because there are no comebacks.

Absolutely this. Ignorance is bliss sometimes.

I'm an optimistic guy but when you see ManU, ManCity, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all strengthen on last year's squads and you know that whatever we do we simply cannot compete with that, you have to get worried that 4th is the best we can hope for.

Plastics, they're everywhere. They see Manure, Chelski and Chitty pay literally billions for players. Then their fans, most of which have never been to Manchester or could point to Chelsea on a London map, celebrate wildly.

They choose to follow Spurs, not knowing our history and then expect us to follow suit. It's weird, we're playing the best football for decades and there's genuine reason for optimism but they want the success now. Bunch of entitled ****s

Financially, we have no right to even compete with those teams, yet we do, year after year.
If anyone really thought after last season that the Mancs and Chelsea weren't going to spend big this year then they're bloody naive.
Right now maybe 4th is the best we can hope for....and I'm absolutely cool with that.
