When Martin Peters was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and his memory started to fade, his friends and former team-mates felt an urge to reinforce his legacy before it was too late.

Martin really was under-appreciated by Spurs fans, possibly because our idol Jimmy Greaves moved to West Ham as part of the deal. He formed a great partnership with Chivers and Gilzean in the early 1970s and it's a shame that he is largely forgotten when we talk of our great players of the past. Definitely all skill and guile. Terrible to think of him with Alzeimers.

With respect, that is a huge generalisation. One of my favourite players and the current comparisons with Dele also suggest otherwise.

Point taken but I still believe he deserves better recognition for the player he was. The comparison with Alli, although judstified, was made by his former tean-mates who all recognised his abilities. Martin Peters was superb in the air and had that great ability to ghost in un-noticed (as does Dele)

Try not to click on Mail stories but glad I did on this one.
So sad but a great tribute to him.
Awful news that someone involved in so many memories for us all
is no longer able to share in them.

I've said it before on SC ... MP scored all 4 goals at Old Trafford back in 1972 in a 4-1 win.

I was there. I mentioned this to him back in 1997 when I was speaking to him in the Billy Nicholson suite and he was genuinely shocked that anyone remembered as people only ever wanted to talk about the World Cup and 66

He certainly wasn't under-appreciated by me. My favourite player when I was a kid. I mean, I probably started supporting Spurs because of Greavsie but I was really too young to appreciate him. MP was a magnificent player - bit like Dele in that he always knew where to be on a pitch (not as easy as it sounds).

EDIT: well, reading the other comments, that's all been said already. It's true, you know ....
