I'm sorry but can we please try and look at transfers from the clubs point of view rather than a fans point of view?

I'd happily spend a bagillion dollars on a player and give him a brazillion dollars in wages when it's not coming out of my pocket. But would spurs?

Do they want to spend another 25mil+ on Atal and have him possibly turn out to be a bust again and have spent 50mil poorly at RB or just go get the best one who at 21 years old could be a mainstay for 10 years? Obviously AWB could bust here but it looks fairly likely he's a star. This is a club that hasn't spent a dime in 18 months & will have 2 RBs out the door most likely that would cover most of the fee.

But you're deciding out of your own personal preference that one might possibly be a bust and the other not, both carry the same risk and both have the same upside of potentially being a mainstay for 8-10 years.

I would argue there is a much higher risk in Atal vs AWB.

Well there's an argument to say that AWB has prem experience but when he's possibly over double the cost and we're talking fees which would be 5-10 mill over the most expensive fullback in history then that risk arguably evens out.

£50m would be our record transfer. Not a pittance.

A close friend who's a Palace season ticket holder told me today that AWB is awful at defending but good going forward. No idea if he's right.

Being awful at defending is the last thing AWB is. Not sure if your friend is trolling you, but he was the best defensive fullback in the league last season

Never said it was a pittance, but don't think its wrong to say we'd likely be able to cover most of the fee with the sales of Trippier & Aurier.

We could cover it by selling eriksen and kane. Doesn't mean he's worth it.

£50m. Forget about what idiot pl clubs pay. No team in europe would pay that for him. For a reason.

Someone, Snarf I think it was, posted Atal's statbomb and it showed that he had elite defensive productivity in addition to his obvious talents further upfield. Obviously there's a bigger risk in bringing in a player from a lesser league, but if Atal settles in England he could be an absolute superstar, so if Palace hold us to ransom for AWB I'd be perfectly happy with Atal at two thirds of the price.

I can't see us buying anyone from another pl team, unless they are in the last year of their contract.

Well we could sign 3 Serge Auriers I suppose

Not sure how relatable selling two of our best offensive players is to selling our two RBs who clearly aren't good enough to fund their replacement?

I wonder how much Norwich want for Aarons? If Palace want £70m plus for W-B then we should be telling them where to stick it. I’d much rather turf Aurier and Trippier out on their arses and bring in both Atal or Semedo and Aarons for less/circa the W-B fee.
Aarons would be a good backup option. Very rare you see a promoted team sell their best players though

We could definitely acquire most of the funds for AWB by selling Trips and Serge but whilst the former has his suitors I’m not sure that the latter has any. In this scenario, we’d also be relying massively upon KWP as a back up and as much as I like the concept of homegrown youth making it with us I’m not gonna let romanticism get in the way of progression because I’m still not convinced by Kyle - see Onomah. That being said we absolutely need to address our gaping holes and RB and CM are the obvious weaknesses in our squad. If by all accounts we’re going full out to genuinely compete next season I’m not sure CP holding out for an exorbitant amount is something we weren’t prepared for. Just because we’ve finally loosened the purse strings doesn’t mean others will start to be lenient - this has to have been considered otherwise we aren’t doing our due diligence.
