If Trips and Aurier are moved on, i don't think 50-60m is a fortune these days.

I personally feel RB is a must improve. Top 3 priority list.

The guy has done it in the PL already - everyone from overseas is a risk for me.

RB should be a priority but we can’t sell both SA and KT and only bring in AWB, one injury and we’re back to square one. We’ve got options but Foyth and Dier are for emergencies only and KWP didn’t get a sniff despite SA injury and KT appalling form.

Ideally, Trippier out, AWB or Atal in.

I think he's the most athletically and defensively developed young RB in England. He's fast, tall, strong, loves a tackle and can take on his man (avg 1.7 dribbles p90). He has the physical build to be a phenomenal RB.
Our defensive record last year suggests we need to upgrade our defense, specifically on the right flank where Trippier was often exposed. I'd rather have a RB of AWB's build that is a phenomenal defender and can transition the ball up the flanks (like Walker) rather than be suspect defensively but have a lethal final ball (like Trips), especially if we add players that can take up the responsibility of providing creativity in the midfield like GLC and Ndombele.

If he works on his final ball, he'll be rivaling TAA for a spot in the England first XI in the years to come.

1 good season makes someone a £50m player? Insane money in my opinion.

3 assists and no goals in 35 games is not the sort of return I'd want for that sort of money. Even Trippier posted better figures than him, with less game time, in what we all consider to be a very poor season for him. AWB has potential, no doubt, but the potential in currently unrealised. Can't believe Palace have turned it down. That's even more insane.

I agree that 50m is an enormous number for a defensive player with one season in the top-flight, but there is no ignoring that the market is horribly inflated; especially for domestic transfers (we know Palace love to play hard ball with their players as well)

I think you have to examine AWB more holistically as a player: he's one of the best RBs in the league in terms of defensive ability, athleticism, and carrying the ball up the pitch. You also have to think about Palace's style of play vs ours when comparing him to Trippier, where Trippier is always expected to get forward and AWB is often expected to stay back and defend (think of his positioning vs us). This isn't to discredit the fact that the weakest part of AWB's game is his final ball IMO and something he would need to improve. But I think he provides us with the defensive reliability we need in the back as well as the ability to carry the ball forward and release it to our attacking players when playing out the back, making him an ideal RB candidate for us.

Does that ever happen, though? Even at his young age, his delivery is what it is.

But the question is, is he the best value we could find for the position. Weighing current quality, potential and cost. At 50 million and up, SURELY there are better value options out here. If he had bossed the league for three seasons then fair enough - and he might. Hindsight could come back to bite.

But I really think there must be more sensible risks.

i think we should still go for AWB if we have to sell both KT and SA

Rose - Vertonghen - Alderweireld - AWB

Would bring us back into discussion for best back line in the world.

Edit: and being able to slot in Sanchez to go 3atb with the upgraded midfield be would a brick wall.

If we sell Trippier for £30m and get even as little as £15m for Aurier (but you'd think it would be closer to £20m) then we should be all over this. We'd sort out that position for years to come.
Exactly. People who wouldn't pay the fee know we could be stuck with Tripper?

We need to get in touch with his agent to let him know we're interested if we can raise the funds. Hopefully that way it could hold off any move to United until we know where we're at financially. As you said, sell Aurier and Trippier and suddenly this is perfectly reasonable.

Yes he's a defender but playing for Spurs the FBs are required to be an attacking threat not just defend. Now of course they first and foremost need to be able to defend, which Tripper can't, but if they can only defend and can't pose an attacking threat then they aren't going to be the type of player we need in Poch's system.

None of this is to comment on whether AWB can or can't provide an attacking threat just to say that the discussion of whether he can is highly relevant even though he is a defender.

£50m is about right in this market, tbh I could see him fetch more given his age and talent! The position is vital for the way we play and we've been targeted at rb the past season.

Sell Tripps for £30m, I don't think £20m net spend for such an important upgrade is bad at all.

Pretty sure he played as a striker at youth team level and then as a winger at U23 level - so reckon you'll see him become an even better player in a team that play with full backs high up the pitch.

Pretty much zero chance we go in on a RB (let alone one this expensive) until Trips and Aurier are sold. They make 140k a week combined in wages. Can't get someone new in without them going out unfortunately.

I love AWB as a player and do think he'll be worth 50m, but I understand the club being hesitant to spend 50m on a guy who doesn't even have an international cap. It's a BIG risk.

Is it a big risk? How many big time transfers of defenders within the premier league have flopped? As in proven premier league players.
