Yup, I would be very much an advocate of Shawcross for this reason.

Well, if two footballing nobodies like you & me are able to see the need for such an addition, is it beyond the realms of reality that our coaches have also spotted it?

I guess we can live in hope!! Maybe Poch's desire for Schneiderlin is a sign that we lack players with that mentality?

Haha that's exactly my logic, I feel that if some Yank who resents the high line system can identify the need for a vocal communicator in the high line, that a coach who has built his managing career on it should be able to do so. It's just simply practical, end of.

I agree, I think Schneiderlin is in that vein. No doubt we need a bit more leadership and resolve, and that conveyed to the rest of the players. I do think a CB would be optimal as they can see more of the pitch and are placing less strain on their lungs in the press (thus more lung space available to be barking them orders), but any vocal player would be very beneficial.

Yep, as any self respecting, half decent manager/coach knows. Build from the back, get that bit right first & foremost, then address issues further up the field. So doing as you've been requesting for a good few months now, ie bringing in a vocal CB, one with organising abilities & no fear of dishing out a bollocking to anyone who deserves one, would be the best thing we could do in the immediate future.

Honestly, do you think that Poch doesn't realise this? Rome wasn't built in a day. We have at least one player who is capable of being vocal: Bentaleb. However, it takes time for character to develop. None of the senior outfield players have grasped the nettle, but they've been given ample opportunity to do so.

I'm not sure if you've misunderstood the conversation I was having? We were only saying we lack someone with genuine leadership qualities, which really affects our on field displays. You've also admitted the same in your response. I don't for one minute think Pochettino hasn't realised this, I was just pointing out the basics, and saying any half decent coach sorts out his back-line first & foremost, then addresses things further forward.

Bringing in a leader in defence would almost instantly solve our defensive issues, and the same can be said of our midfield. I'm not dismissing Bentaleb's shouting ability, but there's a big difference between being vocal, and being someone who can dictate to his team-mates. As you say, he is not yet ready to be a 'leader', so bringing in a proper candidate for that job, whether in defence or midfield, would give the likes of Bentaleb someone to watch, listen to & learn from, then hopefully be able to take the mantle when the experienced leader has to call it a day.

Indeed, he certainly seems to be 'the one' for Pochettino. Sadly, I can't see him ending up in a Spurs shirt. Everything seems to point towards him either ending up as a Gooner, or at United or Chel$ki. He seems hell bent on going to a club in the Champions League, so it has to be one of those clubs, unless he's got offers from abroad.
