He does put the players under pressure, but it is a clear tactic used by Poch. If he goes short the opposition push up, but only the attacking front. The rest of the team cannot afford to push up. This then causes a massive gap between the opposition attack and midfield/defensive midfield. Ultimately leaving a spurs 7 vs opposition 7/8 making it easier to attack. I don't think this tactic should be used at 1-0/2-0 with 10 minutes to go however.
This fella gets it :)

Just want to say that I believe that the save he made at 1-0 that was called offside was up there with his best ever saves. Sometimes I feel as if point blank saves are predominantly luck, but Hugo makes a habit of them. He truly is world class and as much as I wince at his distribution every now and then, the most it ever amounts to is uncomfortable situations. He is rarely ever sorry responsible for a goal. Lloris is world class.

Pass short to keep possesion of the ball and take initiative of the game or hoof the ball?
We are Tottenham Hotspurs not Bolton!

This is how valuable Lloris is to us: -

He is responsible for 10 to 12 points for us over a season. It will be bloody hard if we ever have to replace him as he is is easily one of the top 3 keepers in the world. Easily the best in the premiership. De Gea can suck my balls.

You do realise that Lloris rarely knocks it long, he almost always passes within 20 feet. Whereas most goalies knock it long. So those stats don't mean that much

So, to be clear, you're saying the fact that Lloris plays it short retaining possession means nothing cos he doesn't "kick it long"?

In a world where having the ball is the best form of defence, & with us playing with a style of possession football, you weigh "kicking it long" higher than the retention of possession.

Lol you do realise it means he is good at helping us play the ball out from the back - a strategy which obviously the manager wants us to employ.

he plays it short a lot of the time but his passes outwide to the full backs are usually pretty accurate and they usually hover around the halfway line

Well... actually, that is exactly what those stats mean... it's not like Lloris is launching it 500+ times... And if you look at the numbers for Bravo, De Gea and Fabianski, then you can see that this isn't an uncommon strategy these days.

We try to play out from the back, seeing as whacking it long is not a good way to build attacks. If there's too much pressure, Lloris tends to play longer, chipped passes to the fullbacks, that stay wide not far from the half way line. They will generally win their headers if they are marked, and that is what we use as an out ball.

Whacking it as far as possible down the centre of the pitch reduces the chance of any meaningful possession significantly, and leaves more to pure chance. Which is something we want to avoid.

Soon as you knock it long it becomes a 50/50 ball we play a possession based game which enables us to keep it for long periods, that's why Lloris is so good and why pep would probably want him.

Pep can do one... try actually developing a player for once.

No, what I'm saying is that you cannot compare Lloris's stats with those of teams who play a completely different style of play. It reflects on our style of play, but not on Lloris

Claudio Bravo has the second best passing stats because he too plays out from the back. But many of those passes are to defenders who are marked or in stupid positions which means that those passes are useless and Bravo has let in many more goals than Man City should.

So to be clear, the top 2 in the table play the same but Lloris pisses all over Bravo. That is what I was trying to say in the beginning, Lloris is the best

Top 6 are 2 Spurs, 2 City & 2 Liverpool - shows a lot about how the teams try and play vs. the rest of the league..

Judging by De Geas antics that have come to the publics attention... I think that would float his boat so you may need a rethink.

Today we learn Lloris is Human. He had a bad game. But the spotlight won't be on him and the couple of mistakes he made...

So hopefully he will bounce back in our next league game.

Was awful today. His distribution can often be bad but he gave them 2 goals today. Regardless, it's annoying on the day but he's a quality keeper, we just forget and move on. It's unlikely to happen again this season!

He had an off day today, but I think generally his poor kicking always puts us under pressure. He's a great keeper, but distribution is one of his weaknesses unfortunately.

Everyone has a weakness, it's not the end of the world.
