Is it me or is three years a relatively short contract. It hardly screams we have faith in you. More, it would be embarrassing to get someone else in now, so we’re extending your trial and if it comes unstuck it won’t be expensive to get rid of you.

They basically gave him the minimum they could without looking too conspicuous.

Pretty much on the money I'd say. They've just had to pay Mourinho the GDP of most of Africa for doing an absolutely shocking job, so not at all surprised they're a bit twitchy about a completely unproven Solskjaer.

Appointing ole was the cheaper option. They knew they would have to spend all summer trying to negotiate with levy for poch and probably didn't want the hassle or spend the 15-20m to get him.

As soon as they announced they yesterday that they might be playing us twice in friendlies in the summer I think it was even more nailed on he was getting the job.

Great news, hopefully with Zidane back at Real and Solskjaer back at United the Poch rumours can be put to bed for a couple of years.

Also, from a non-Spursy perspective, I’m very pleased for Ole. He’s done a brilliant job there so far and deserves the permanent role. It’ll be interesting to see what he can accomplish once he’s shipped out a few of the expensive primadonnas.

OGS was perfect for what they needed at the time, but I don't personally think he's got what it takes to rebuild the club back to how it was under SAF.
I don't think that that's how they see it. I think it's more of an attempt to restore the culture of SAF's management regime, with Mike Whelan as No 2 to OGS and SAF available for advice whenever they need him.

That's a problem though IMO. SAF is basically the most successful manager of all time, whether you like him personally or not. Trying to emulate him by cobbling together some poor imitation of his management in the form of a weird good cop/bad cop dynamic of OGS and Phelan is only going to get them so far. I think OGS is fine in terms of stopping the rot that has set in over recent seasons, but I don't believe he's the man to take them to the next step and establish some kind of long-term success like Ferguson did. Long term they need someone like Poch who can really build the club up in his own image i.e. someone who shares the philosophy of SAF in the sense of caring about the club as a whole and the long-term development rather than just adding a couple of trophies to his CV and moving on alla Mourinho. Poch has proven that he can do that. He may not have trophies but it's all relative. Based on where we were pre-Poch and where we are now, he's had a massive impact. If he could have the same kind of difference in terms of start to finish at Man Utd they'll be back to winning leagues.

OGS has got the players playing again because he's not Mourinho and he's letting them run the show.
At some point they'll start to coast and he'll need to bring them into line and it'll start again.
That will be the real test and if Mourinho couldn't manage them Ole's got no chance.

His only hope is to send Pogba, Lukaku, etc down the road and bring in younger players who want to play for the badge.
But that's a gamble as if the team goes backward they'll sack him for not getting top four etc.
I think he's stuck in a horrible catch 22 situation.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Poch just left us and took a bit of time out rather than went directly to another club. Hopefully that won't be for good number of years and we'll be sitting pretty with some trophies.

I think people are underestimating OGS imo

He is smart enough to know there is a chance of this complacency creeping in and reckon he will make a couple of bold decisions to stamp his authority at the first sign but without alienating the squad - something Poch has been good at but hamstrung by Levy’s inability to turn the squad over and Fergie was the master of

He loves Pogba more than his wife though but he's the biggest threat to his authority when things get difficult

As Spurs fans we can certainly be happy at this. Basically means Poch stays at us which is great.

Other than that though why are people laughing at Man Utd or think they've made a mistake? Like sure, on paper OGS isn't the most experienced but no-one (and I do mean literally no-one) would have predicted he'd have changed Man Utd this drastically in the short time he's been there. That insane run of form they were on including their champions league run is bloody amazing it has to be said. Could the OGS project spiral out of control and fall apart? Of course. But there's really nothing to suggest that.

If we were in their shoes we'd likely all be team Ole and want him to get the job after what he's done.

Spurs fan in me hopes this goes somewhat similar to DiMatteo where after all the goodwill and success in his short spell... it then all falls apart. But it's certainly not a laughing matter appointment yet as he's (annoyingly) not really put a foot wrong yet

He's a likeable guy. I hope he does well but I just hope we back Poch in the summer to allow us to stay ahead of them.

We 100% would be team Ole if the shoe was on the other foot. I think he's got a better squad and one that isn't as poison as the one Di Matteo had either.
