If the government facilitates a sale, with no money going to Abramovich. Then won't Chelsea be fine once they have a new owner?

They will but in the meantime they're making absolutely no money until that sale goes through which takes a long time, even longer when you factor in the government will be involved.

Factor in the atmosphere within the club as well, hopefully it hits their form too.

Tbh I’m not expecting to see much damage done to chelsea, Abramovich will sell the club and the government will make sure he doesn’t get a penny.
Reckon they’ll be sold fairly quickly

Simon Jordan seems to believe a sale will be possible asap. With Romans statement that he would take no profits from the sale of the club, the government could oversee a sale, and along with the buyer, control where the money for the purchase goes. It makes sense, it would be in the best interests of the government, PL etc to remove him from being the owner as soon as possible

But why would he sell the club and take no profit whatsoever to at least try to recoup some of the billions of pounds he's laundered sorry pumped in over the last 20 years. Billionaires dont get rich by giving stuff away for free.

The measures mean that Abramovich cannot sell Chelsea or invest in the club. The 55-year-old put the club up for sale last week and had been hoping for a deal to go through quickly. There has been interest in the club from several parties.

Chelsea, who were bought by Abramovich in 2003, now face an uncertain future. The European champions have been given a special licence to continue operating, but they will do so with restrictions hanging over them. They cannot sell any more tickets, no merchandise sales are allowed and they cannot sign players or hand out new contracts. Season ticket holders are allowed to attend games and catering services will be permitted.
Sounds like the govt. will be happy to see a sale go through as long as none of the money goes to Abramovich. He has said any money gained will go to victims of the war, but that could mean some could go to Russia. If they can get him to give the money to our govt who can then transfer it to the charities in Ukraine the sale will probably go through.

I doubt they'll go back into midtable obscurity.
They won't be fine unless the new owners commit to spending hundreds of millions of their own money just to keep the club from insolvency. Abramovich has put in £1.5bn over 19 years that he wasn't getting back even before the sanctions, there are very few owners in the world who would ever dream of doing anything similar.

While I expect there will be a fairly quick sale you have to wonder how much this whole episode will severely damage Brand Chelsea - tainted with being ‘that Russian club’ going forward?

Apparently chelsea only had 15 minute warning beforehand so probably just using an already made browser to stop sales happening
They may even have a contractor that handles the website, and aren’t sure they can even pay them to change it ?

Haven't they been known as that since 2003? They had a brief spell between their National Front days and their blood money era to be fair.
