Yeah, but we don't know if Lenglet can defend against bus parkers. I get the theory, but I want to see him in Prem action before I make a call on him
Of course I understand what matters is Conte not me. But Conte doesn't always get it right re LCB, eg Sanchez.
We'll see what happens, I'll just be happy if Davies starts V Soton
How much defending would he need to do against bus parkers?

So we only have 5 CBs now, correct? Assuming JT goes on loan too. So is the intention to bring in another CB in that case?
I wonder if Emerson Royal is considered an option, in the same way Davies was moved to left centre back. Keeps him in the squad whilst Moura and Spence get used to their new roles

I did think that but we already have Romero and Sanchez for RCB, plus, if Conte was considering playing him at RCB I would've thought we would have seen him being played there during preseason, like he's done with Moura at RWB.

tbf I can see Tanganga staying now Rodon is off. Makes sense for HG numbers and his versatility. That will leave us with 6 which is more than enough.
I hope not for both his and our sake. I don’t think he is good enough but he needs regular game time and he isn’t going to get that.

Not the move I expected for Rodon. I was hoping for a PL loan, or at least top end of the Championship.

It's going to be interesting to see how the CB situation plays out now. With Rodon off we desperately need a player capable of stepping into Diers role in the centre. Shifting Romero there is currently probably our best option but we were far poorer in defence when we did that last year.

Tbh I expected us to cash in on Sanchez as he only has two years left on his deal, and put the funds toward a high calibre signing, with Japhet sticking around as backup at RCB, where I think he could do ok with a bit of work.

Sanchez appears to be sticking around, which is fine with me as he's a great backup at RCB, but there's still a bit of a hole in the centre. I still expect a left field CB signing toward the end of the window, possibly someone very unglamorous but experienced who Conte feels can slot in. If we end up limiting ourselves to a homegrown option then I'm stumped as to who that could be.

Hope he does well he’s a good defender, he’s just not as good as Dier unfortunately for him.

Rennes just brought in a new young CB partnership not top defenders but very useful players with a higher ceiling than they've had the chance to show so far. I think it's an exciting time to be joining the club.
This could be a very good move for Joe and I really wish him well.

Very much doubt Rennes take up the buy option, but hopefully he has a great experience and comes back a better player.

Then he can challenge for a first team place next season or get a move to another premier league club.

Why do you doubt that?

Because most teams in Ligue 1 have very little money.

We’ll see though.
Well, none of these european teams have taken up these relatively high buy clauses yet, so its a fair assumption imo.

They''ll most likely only activate it if they believe they can sell him on for double, in which case he's had one hell of a season.

20 m euros is a reasonable price for Rodon , we have no real idea of his standard , think he made just 15 starts in two seasons with us in PL.
Rennes have spent a bit in last two seasons so seem financially sound plus they have the Aguerd money to spend..

Interesting move. The option is low enough that Rennes might just trigger it if he has an awesome season. If not then it’s good for him to get consistent game time.

Not sure if this means another CB will be joining as it would be one out (Rodon) and one in (Lenglet). If Tanganga goes then surely so. But I hope so! Pining for that world class CB to top off the window…

With Rodon going it really does put some pressure on us to find a player to complete with Dier for the central CB position. Unless Lenglet can play there, which I’m not sure he can, we’d be a bit screwed if Dier was out for any length of time.
