Can't remember seeing a team overhaul their defence to such a standard in one window, even if one of them would be coming in next year.

It's not this signing in itself, but just how much they've been able to spend this window is kind of sickening. The way they've gone about the whole window has felt incredibly like a 10 year old in charge of his Football Manager club. Just chucking money wherever they can.

Wish we had the ability to do this.

He’s a superb player and well worth not having to go through the pain of the two £40m players they would otherwise buy and have to bin off for not being good enough.
We signed Romero for £40m. Why is everyone so hung up on the fee all the time? We've seen time and time again it doesn't mean anything.

Don't get me wrong, this will probably be a good signing for them but he has a £43m release clause that becomes active next season - they've just paid near double that amount a year in advance just to prize him off the market. Chelsea and City have skewed everyone's expectations of how football works so whenever we don't do what they do we "lack ambition" - they're the exception not the rule and there's little we can do about it whether we like it or not.

Why the fuss? Isnt Bastoni our number one target anyways, even next summer I see him as the one Conte will want. Dont think we would want both next summer and Dier will still be the central figure in our defence.
It's no certainty Bastoni comes to us at all.

Another boat missed, I would've rather we picked up an Ndicka, Hincapie type player this window ready for next.

That's just insane if true. What if he picked up a major injury that affected his ability to play at the highest level?

They’ve now signed arguably the 2 best young centre backs in the world

There is absolutely no guarantee Bastoni will join us next summer or in five summers, it's such blind optimism really. He's an Italian playing for his club in Italy. Bet he signs a new contract when the window shuts.

Also didn't he have like a 45 million release clause next summer?

Their new owner that they are going at it things very aggressively very early on, they're also writing players contracts off, Lukaku 100 mill write off loaned out, Bakayoko, Barkley just being released from contracts. Scatter Gun approach to signing this season. Now logic would dictate that they are going to find themselves with a team which is disjointed whilst simultaneously adding more players on high wages who they can't shift and that with their outlay this summer, they're going to be limited in what they can do in the next few seasons off the back of the expenditure this year. However Logic and financial fair play when it involves Chelsea have rarely coincided so we'll see what happens but the way they've spent this summer could have a big impact on their future endeavours if they can't shift some of their players next summer.

Oh fuck off.

I said bigger clubs would be in for him next summer so waiting was pointless.

Fofana, Gvardiol, that is sickening. Honestly, Chelsea are just showing us up, you can sign the CBs if you have the money.

It's just depressing really, even with new owners Chelsea are still showing more ambition in the market to win things.
Sorry but €90M is ridiculous money for a young player. 0% chance any sensible club would pay that AND loan the player back

Chelscum is both rich and stupid at the same time. Paying €90m ffs and still not playing for them this season. What if they got relegate this season? :sneaky:

Everyones for sale if you pay a premium. Whether its a good price is very much up for debate but you cant argue with their ambition. Every window we try and be smart with our windows and whilst we have been remarkably close to success on a couple of occasions with the chelseas, utds, city and now even newcastles of the world its only going to get harder for us if we continue to penny pinch. I dont believe for a second we will stand a chance of signing bastoni next season as one of the bankrolled clubs will throw money at the deal.

And to think we were all dead excited when the news of our £150m investment broke earlier in the summer. Chelsea spending over half that on a player they're essentially loaning straight out again. A drop in the ocean compared to the likes of Chelsea, City etc. Scandalous really

Followed Gvardiol's career since his U17 for Croatia, he's a good player and there's maybe 5 elite left sided CBs who can work in a back 3, but that is way overpriced.

Is their turnover that much more than ours?
No, it’s not. Their commercial revenue is a bit higher and our match day revenue is much higher than theirs. They also spend a lot more on wages, etc. They basically have lost money continuously since Roman took over. The value of the club has increased greatly from all the spending and success. I’m not sure how or why they’ve gone on this spending spree although they did promise to as part of their bid. It’s not sustainable unless these business minded owners are also trying to launder money.
