Failed utd player who had his moment in the sun with West ham. How is this guy supposed to kick us on!? So underwhelming.

It all depends how much we have to pay for him so if he’s relatively cheap then he’d be a good option to have.

Hard to get overly excited about bringing in Jesse Lingard to help make up the difference after who we played today.

I don't think it's so much about the individual or any other individual in general. Yes of course they need to be of a certain quality but it's about the collective. I think Lingard can be part of a good collective but we really need a range of better players than what we currently have.

There are only so many individuals who would have made us so much better today on their own.

By not being Dele, Ndombele or Lo Celso?

He may not tickle everyone's pickle but there can be little argument against the fact that he's shown more in the last 6 months than any of those 3 have shown us simple fuckwits on here.

It's a low bar though. Lingard hasn't done enough in his career to convince me he's the answer, but what do I know? If the boss thinks he can do a job for him then fair enough. I'd love nothing more than if he came here and smashed it. I guess what I'm trying to say, for me it's very underwhelming

As others have aluded to, he showed great form for West Ham and was very unlucky not to get in the Euros squad last summer. He was certainly in better form than any other creative midfielder we had.

With it being a world cup year, he might have that drive and motivation that some players seem to get. Whereas you look at some of our lads and they don't have that desire.

I think he could come in and do a job with Kane and Son but I can't see United letting him leave to a rival in January. Surprised he hasn't been given a chance at United this season though, seeing as they also have problems creating chances.

I just see him as someone we will all be moaning about, probably within a year of him signing for us.

I think people need to set their expectations for this window. Maybe with the exception of Kessie I don't think there will be any real quality signings this window. The likes of Lingard and Traore will improve on Doherty and Dele for me. With Lingard he is just more suited to our system than Dele. He's more effective on the counter where he thrived for West Ham and more likely to score off the bench. We could take a chance on another prospect in Europe but that didn't work so well for Bergwijn. I'm not sure Utd will sell to us though unless we loan them Dele or something.

Exactly that, it's like Traore, sure he hasn't had much input for Wolves in the past few seasons in terms of stats but he adds an element of fear to a team that opposition defenders don't like going against him. We lack that, at the moment it's so easy for teams to turn up and sit back against us when we break because...we have a severe lack of pace other than Lucas and Reguilon (when he plays). Traore would give us another outlet and a pacey winger is something we have lacked in a long long time.

I think Lingard would also benefit from this system better than what Alli has. But yeah I just can't see anyway they do a deal unless they want to free up money for a signing themselves.

If we were to sign him it would have to be on an 18 month contract if it's in January, or 12 month if it's in July. Not worth signing him long-term on massive wages if he is just going to take over Dele's position on the bench.

For that reason I don't think it's even a starter as he would want a 3-4 year contract at the age of 29.

The difference between him and Dele is that JL can actually run. Which can be handful for Conte's counter attacking style of play

TBH there are better pre-contract players out there for us than Lingard. Dybala being an obvious one.

This would be so stupid from United. If Newcastle go down it buys two/three more years before they spend their way into the top 4 battle. Why help them stay up?
I don't see any prem teams wanting to do Newcastle. What would United gain from loaning out Lingard for the last few months of his contract before he can then leave on a free? They might as well keep him in their squad for rotation.

The argument is money, I guess?

What would you do if you were United?
Pay him for 6 months, without playing him much (if at all) or let someone pay his wages for 6 months, saving you 100k a week?
Potential of a loan signing fee too or something and this could be the only chance United have left for getting Money for Lingard (given that no-one, not even Newcastle, would be dumb enough to buy him in January when he's free in the summer)
