The most exciting part of this for me is that here we are, discussing whether our (potentially) seventh signing of the summer should be a PL-proven player, moving into his peak years, and having come off a season where he contributed thirty goals and assists, or someone perhaps even better. It really goes to show just what a reversal of attitudes Conte has brought to this club.

I don’t want Canohaglu at all and I want Maddison over Ruiz definitely.

When someone says that “most of us would be happy with the player”, it makes me uneasy because we are going off what, someone else’s opinion of a player…and I see plenty of positive opinions on here about players I just don’t want us to sign at all.
But i don't think there are many players in the world everyone here would all be happy with. Im fairly sure there would even be people who wouldn't want Mbappe. I wouldn't read to much into it TBH. There are people who don't want Maddison, Paqueta, JWP, SMS and every other AM we have been linked with. On the flip side there are some players the majority, or at least an even split, of us wont be happy with, Tielmans for example.

Until we know who else is on our list its impossible to know if Maddison is better or worse. I think we just need to be happy that we targeting, in general, a high caliber player for this position.

It's really hard to think who else is out there currently in Maddisons position that will be better than him based on current form.

There's maybe a handful of players who are better than him in style, but not in terms of stats. Maddison should definitely be the one we go for, unless he's a smokescreen for someone truly elite. But even then I can't really think of anyone outside the Prem who would be better than Maddison in terms of what he can offer us.

Paqueta being the only other one who sounds like he can cover midfield and forward.

The only other players I can think of who can cover mid and forward roles play for City. Guys like Gundogan or Bernardo, but don't think those will be happening.
100% and anyone coming from abroad would always be a risk adapting to a new league etc.

Maddison would be THE best possible realistic signing we could make for this position and I for one bloody hole we can get him. The fact we got Bissouma and Richarlison gives me hope that this could be possible as we are targeting some of the teams below us best players (great strategy btw, requires overpaying slightly but it’s a safe bet to bring in quality who can adapt and perform very quickly).

Honestly might be a Longshot but I think it could be milinkovic savic.

He has played deep, as an 8, as a 10 and even a CF. Apparently he's available as there are rumors linking him with Arsenal, and he's a giant machine of a player (who we know Conte like having size). Calanglou would be very underwhelming. Average at best. Seen him play alot and he will have good games once every while but apart from that isn't very effective. Ruiz is a shout but he's more an 8 than a true 10. Just a thought.

Glad to hear we have been looking at Maddison for a while. Since he didn’t mention Prem players, I have to wonder if Madueke is one of the other HG players.

Fabian Ruiz makes little sense as an AM in a Conte system IMO.
He's more of a distributor that does his best work as a Jorginho-type instead of an agile player suited for the front line like Maddison.
If we'd look to upgrade on PEH then he'd be my number one pick, but as an AM he's not even remotely as effective as Maddison.

Previously wasn't there ITK or possibly Ally Gold saying we were looking for a Jorginho type of midfielder?

There was but I think that was prior to us getting Bissouma.
I think Ruiz would be perfect in our two or in the Brozovic role in a three, not as an AM in our front three.

Nice little write up on him.

I like this bit:

"Despite being widely regarded as a No. 10, Maddison displayed his versatility last term, excelling in multiple roles including right-midfielder, second striker, and even right forward. The 25-year-old is a very intelligent playmaker and works intricately in half-spaces to generate high-quality chances and shots.

His movement, ball control, and ability to pick out a pass make him almost unplayable when in full swing. His presence would also reduce the creative workload on Harry Kane, who would then have to focus only on finding the back of the net rather than dropping deep to knit-up plays. Not to mention his stylish free kicks and the threat he poses to opponents from set-piece situations."

Really wish we can get him.

Well that gives more than a hint about Leicester's financial situation.
If they want five or six players in they must have identified at least some of them and they're going to need a big sale to have a chance of doing it.

Never realised they were that bad financially. Outside of tielemans (sp) it's hard to see how they will be able to raise any decent level of cash without selling Maddison or Barnes.
I was skeptical re their willingness to sell Maddison but with only 6 weeks left they may have little option but to consider a sale.
