Hull City midfielder Jake Livermore has tested positive for cocaine and will not play again for Hull City this season.

Livermore, who has made one appearance for England, failed a random drug test after Hull’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace last month

The club are expected to release a statement this afternoon, but it is a massive blow to manager Steve Bruce, whose side are desperately trying to avoid relegation.

Livermore, who came through Tottenham Hotspur’s Academy, was superb for Hull last season as they managed to stay in the top flight and also reach the FA Cup Final. But his form has dipped this term along with the rest of the Hull side.

More to follow...

...Crikey didn't expect that, things must really be grim up north...

They should just let him crack on. Extra bit of energy in midfield and all that.

It was good enough for Diego.

Always came across as quite a sensible lad. Everyone makes mistakes, I guess.

The worst thing for him will be the look on Daws' face the next time he sees him. Like your favourite labrador looking at you disapprovingly.

Who do you think he got it from? Daws is an international drug dealing King pin. being a footballer is just a front.

He uses Bruce as his main man for distribution across the north west, hence the phrase "a Brucie bonus"

Allegedly.

Hardly a surprise I would say a good percentage will do it! Most sports people use drugs of some form whether its reccy or enhancing, its a case of whether they get caught or not!

As it stands, Adrian Mutu is the only top-flight footballer in England to have failed a test for cocaine.
That resulted in 7 month ban... Wonder what will happen to Jake - could be shorter, could be longer.

Do you have an quantitative evidence to back this supposition up?

It's rife, no doubts what so ever.
I cant talk about football but I know of alot of artists that do that and yet are painted in the daily mail as a great role model and their poster girl, does make me laugh

Alot of people including journos know this but its not in their "interests" to print the story
