Jack Clarke transfer: Tottenham told how much they need to pay for Leeds United sensation

Tottenham are looking to seal a deal for the Leeds United youngster, who has had a breakthrough season in the Championship

Spurs have been told to pay £20million for Leeds United’s exciting teenager Jack Clarke.

The 18-year-old has made a big impression in his first season at Elland Road and was recently named the club’s young player of the season.

Spurs are anxious to sign good young English talent and are still interested in Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish who was the subject of a number of failed bids last summer from the North London club.

They feel that Clarke who has fully recovered from a virus which saw him taken to hospital after collapsing at half-time in February during a Championship game at Middlesbrough is one for the future.

Most of his 25 appearances for Leeds have come off the substitutes bench but Spurs are amongst a clutch of Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace who have seen the potential and want to act swiftly once the season is over.

But Spurs haver told Leeds won’t part cheaply and they will have to come up with an offer in the region of £20 million.

They could even loan him back as the Yorkshire club are forced to contemplate another season in the Championship after losing in the play-offs.

Better get this one done quick smart, the Qataris are sniffing around Leeds, or it will be another Grealish.

God that would be fucking annoying. Can't claim to have watched loads of Leeds this season, but the few times I did and he was on the pitch he massively stood out to me. He seems very comfortable on the ball and capable of thinking creatively with it, I didn't see any unnecessary flash, but he looks like he could pull out a trick in the right situations. Overall I was just really impressed and despite being young and raw, there just seemed to be a higher level of natural ability than the players around him.

Not that I think he could be remotely as good, but it reminded me of the first time I saw Mbappe when he played against us for Monaco in the Europa three or so years ago. Very unfazed by the stage at a young age and always looking to do something positive.

RADRIZZANI IS NOT SELLING

Mirror journalist David Anderson has delivered a definitive update on Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani, saying that he “is not selling up at Leeds and will remain in charge for next season at least”.

This comes after it was reported that PSG’s owner, Qatar Sports Investments, was looking to buy a major stake in the club.

Radrizzani bought 100% of the club from Massimo Cellino but sold a minority stake to the San Francisco 49ers for £11million last summer.

This is a pretty definitive statement from Anderson, who is a good source of Leeds news. Radrizzani has admitted that it’s going to be a tough summer for Leeds, with little money available for transfers. However, it doesn’t look like he’s going to sell and we think that’s good news for Leeds fans who are desperate for news on Marcelo Bielsa. Radrizzani has been locked in talks with the Argentine manager last week and we’d say that if he’s staying for another season, it would make Radrizzani much more bullish about Leeds’ chances of getting to the Premier League at the next attempt. That would see his investment pay huge dividends and he doesn’t seem ready to call a time on his Leeds’ tenure yet. Some Leeds fans would like to see him go and see new money come into the club in time for the summer transfer window, but we can’t help but think that’s short-termism. Radrizzani has done a lot at Leeds, not least bringing Bielsa in, and we want to see the two of them tackle the Championship again next season.

Ok I know nothing of him so I looked at one of his you tube clips and while I obviously can't say how good he is or will be he actually reminded me of a young Chris Waddle with his strength and the way he drops his shoulder and goes past people.

That’s what I thought first time a saw him. It’s not just the skill or pace of technique, it’s the actual verve with which he does things.

I think there's a better chance we attempt to sign Clarke now that Villa have gained promotion. Surely Grealish will be staying at Villa now, whether it's because he wants to stay or because Villa name an abysmal price for him. I'm sure he would've been nailed on if they lost.

I think we could have trouble getting attacking talent that's ready to challenge for a starting role but isn't going to cost us an arm and a leg (this will be even worse if Eriksen leaves as we'll need spend an extraordinary amount to get a replacement for him without the quality of the first XI dropping off significantly)

If Lamela stays and Llorente goes, I'm still expecting two attacking players coming in (three if Eriksen leaves).

Before today, I was expecting Grealish (as Eriksen understudy) and either Sess/Clarke (as a young prospect).

Out of our reported targets thus far, Grealish and Brandt were likely the best bargains at around the 30m range. The others are going to take substantially greater transfer fees that I can't imagine we'd pay for a squad player: Lo Celso (60m bid rejected), Brooks (at least 40-50m), Maddison (50m+). I think Odegaard would be an ideal alternative to Grealish in terms of skillset and price but we haven't been linked to him yet.

For these reasons, I can see Clarke as our Grealish alternative and us going after him and Sess this window - which would be satisfying IMO if we hold onto Eriksen.

I don't think we'll have to start from scratch if we don't get Grealish I'm sure we have alternatives even if he was our number one target. Villa will hold onto him if they can which shouldn't be hard as he is unlikely to kick up a fuss even if leaving is the best option for his career.

He’s got basically the same lanky build as Bale at that age, and Bale didn’t have that initial impact acceleration until he muscled out a bit in his early twenties. In fact the first time I saw him that’s what I was reminded of, a 17 year old Bale.

Very much agreed

If you compare the pace of Sane/Bale in their 18/19th years with that in year 21/22 you see the potential of Sessegnon and Clarke, who are already quite quick relative to fully grown men.

His substantial technical ability aside, Clarke's height, along with his shoulder width and relative power and pace at his age make him a very interesting prospect to say the least.

How far do people that have seen him play think he is from a first team impact?

It’s always hard to tell when someone’s so raw. Lennon impacted the first team at that age, so did Sterling, Bale is better than both and showed glimpses but didn’t really impact till he was a couple of years in (injuries obviously didn’t help).

I’d say that with his talent and pace, he could definitely get games immediately, but in terms of displaying the current first choice players he’d need at least a season under his belt with us.

If I remember correctly Bales problem was how his body grew in spurts. It took him a while to get the muscle to match his growth.

So do you reckon we'll bring him in and then loan him out again?

If we bring in Lo Celso and Eriksen resigns, there won't be many playing opportunities for this kid.

I'd love to see him at a Villa or Norwich for the whole season to get some games under his belt.

He’s more of winger/striker I think, not same position as them teo

Honestly could see us not getting another striker if we got Clarke. Think Lucas and Son can cover kane and then Dele Lamela able to play false 9. Clarke can fit into that system.

I think Clarke would more than likely go back to Leeds on loan for a season. He wasn’t always a starter for Leeds so I think it could be awhile before he is ready for our 1st team
