Dan, are you able to let us (A&C or myself) know in confidence about your source(s)? You've already started to get a bit of stick on other forums and that does reflect on SC as a whole as well.

We're more than happy to have you posting stuff and it's all extremely interesting but I'd be even happier if I could tell the doubters to shut up and that we know where you're info's coming from and that it's decent.

If you can't or won't tell us then fair enough, that's cool and we hope you keep up the interesting posts :)

the conspiracy theorist in me just went into overdrive...

If all of a sudden The Goat starts getting a bit more info and we dont see Dans posts anymore - it will be quite obvious what Rob's done!!!

Just kidding Lads just kidding. For my two bobs worth I'm with Dan on this one - no sensationalist shite, just good info for us to speculate...

Rob if Dan does verify to you and you can vouch for him can we, the lowly know nothings, get a thumbs up endorsement from you or A&C?

What will most likely happen is that Dan will continue to post his snippets as ITK under the protection of the site if we can be assured of authenticity. The usual rules of etiquette will apply as discussed at length in other threads.

Yep. But I also named my particular source re. Bale - I'd been talking to Matt Oakley about him. I have my fingers in a few pies but ultimately everything is second hand.

Re Downing, that was a mess! He wanted out, Boro were happy to let him go, so it was actually both of those who were leaking news of our 'interest', trying to reignite our previous interest from a few years back but more importantly stoke up interest from the West Ham, Newcastle and Evertons of the world. We were contacted by his agent but immediately said no. Ultimately there wasn't sufficient interest from anyone so they resumed contract talks instead.

Dan - thanks for that. Yup - your source re Bale was Matt Oakley, if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the info re Downing. Ramos must have had him extensively scouted when he was at Sevilla (ahead of the UEFA Cup match), and it's interesting that you're suggesting we pretty much flat out said "NO!".

More generally, the way I've always imagined it works is that for first team singings we have a long list and a short list. That short list may include half-a-dozen players. Eg for a striker position, I would imagine Eto'o and Villa are both on the (dream) list, and if we thought we had a chance of one of them then we'd push out the boat to do the deal.

So, with our GKing position, I wouldn't be surprized to learn that we have scouted most of the 34 keepers on that list, and we may have four or five on our short list. Your suggestion, if I understand it correctly, is that Kameni isn't on our short list? And probably isn't even on our long list?

Oh yeah and while I believe Dan's posted in good faith and accurately reported what he's been told, I still think Kameni's going to be the one. That's not ITK, but I reckon it's right.

Nah, it's not a vanity project. I'll just answer criticism and questioning as best and fully as I can. I spend my whole life articulating and arguing things.

As a top flight top league goalkeeper under 35 and in the 'gettable' catagory I'm sure he would have been on the long list. Possibly Ramos then went through the La Liga names and crossed off a few with his red pen, so I'm not sure if he's been specifically scouted as such.

All I know is Kameni is not in the top 2-4 names currently on the shortlist.

Again...I don't know you, or your record of accurate information....Indeed i would prefer adler/frey/gomes to kameni... BUT I have my own (impeccable though rare) information and have been told that we are after him in a big way. Indeed poyet publically stated this.

"Kameni and Jarque are very interesting players, and any interesting player is welcome at a club like Tottenham," Poyet told Catalan radio station RAC1.
"Both are part of a long list of players that the sporting director is looking at and that the club is following with a view to reinforcing our team.”
Poyet added: "We haven't taken any decision regarding making a move. Soon we'll approach the subject and make a decision."

Setanta, plus Tom, Dick and Harry, 28 February.

So nothing that immediately suggests that any of the two are on the 'shortlist' then, if he was asked directly about them.

If he named them out of the blue there might be more to it.

I dont think ive ever been less enthusiastic about a big signing than Kameni, if this is true.

He will make 3 mistakes and get slaughtered. And probably deservedly so from what Ive seen

How many of us have actually seen him play more than three matches? I'm not sure if this negativity is justified or purely down to jumping on the bandwagon and the slightly racist prejudice of an African keeper never being any good.

Ever since we've been linked with Kameni, I've kept a close eye on him on the telly and I'm telling you that we could be doing alot worse than signing this guy. He's got natural ability, of that there is no doubt.

I'd imagine the youtube video nasties of his mistakes aren't very recent, and even if they are, which keeper doesn't make mistakes? He certainly makes alot less gaffes than Robinson. I've seen Manuel Neuer make a few in this season's CL alone. How many time have you people watched Amelia to be so convinced he'd be better than Kameni?

At 6m Euro, Kameni represents great value for money in that, if nurtured properly, I feel he can even become the next Carrick or Berbatov, the star man that the top teams will covet and give us an immense return on our investment. Like most keepers, he's got a crazy streak in him which I feel has been toned down and he's been a largely reassuring influence on the Espanyol defence.

For me, he'll be a terrific signing as long as we also bring in an experienced pro to start the season and give Kameni time to get used to the language, lifestyle and style of play. Jaaskelainen's a great shout for this role.

But in typical Spurs fashion, we'll sign him, throw him in the deep end behind a rubbish defence, he'll be slaughtered and his Spurs career will be over in two weeks.

Strange that neither of Rene Adler, Guillermo Ochoa nor Igor Akinfeev have been linked to Spurs.
Must admit I don't watch Russian league footy, and it's long time since I watched anything from the Mexican league....but, well, guess Spurs would take a look if they found them "worthy".
