Look at this point, whatever. Go. He's not bigger than the club and that's a boatload of dosh. Yes, it will be virtually impossible to replace him. But that doesn't mean we can't be a better team without him.

So let him go and take this circus that has become his staying/going with him. It's distracting.

I think people definitely need to realize that CL is as valuable as cups. CL is what the great players want and we have to get that to keep them. Hopefully then having those players will make cups a regular occurrence.

If true, I hope it will be abroad, not Chelsea/Man.U/Arse/Liv

That would be a bitch.

Honestly it won't be the end of the world if Berbatov left... his no way bigger than the club (which some make him out to be) many better players have come and gone from this famous club. IMO we could do better without Berbatov if (big if) Comoile and Ramos utilize efficiently the ransom we'll receive.

Well, Milan look to be chucking a fair bit of cash about, i think they've decided that 2009 will be their year for a return to the top and will have their name attached to every single top level star that's rumoured to be interested.

Lampard and Drogba will be linked again but it wouldn't surprise me if, after finalising any deal they're hammering out with Barca over Ronaldinho, they'll use that as a draw to tempt some other top names.

Milan, for my money, will be the biggest spenders when this season comes to a close.

Agree with Christophe, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we started to be more effective as a team when berba is gone. He's so much better than the rest of the team that inevitably almost all our play goes through him.

As I've said time and again, all that matters in this whole situation is that he isn't allowed to go to another Premiership side. I'd love to see him banging them in for Milan against Arsenal in next seasons CL.

Well, it depends which dragon1 we're talking about....

Mods- this is not a personal attack on an ITK, but dragon1's "voice" did seem to change last autumn and was even known to lapse into cryptic song lyrics.

This new dragon1 ITK about Berba "sounds" more like the original voice.

yep Yanno - I'm talking about the original Dragon I guess - I don't follow ITK stuff to the nth degree - so am open to correction - but from memory Dragon had a great record - and didnt do cryptic

i wouldn't.

i want him out of the country.

we must not become united's feeder club.

fair enough Lennon - but as I say it wouldn't bher me - as long as we got a Carrick-style fee (which in Berb's case would be £27m+ as he's a better player than Carrick) then done deal and I'm happy :)

this assumes Berbs wants out - but I think he does

He's not bigger than the club

But that's kind of the point, he is. He is Top 4 and we are not. If we had spent wisely in the last close season and kicked on and mounted a Top 4 challenge we could probably have kept him. In the event this season has been an embarrassing shambles, and winning the League Cup has not wiped that out. Footballers have short careers and he is not going to hang around indefinitely waiting for the club to come up to his standard.

We will not be able to replace him, and I am afraid we will not be better a side without him, even if we do get a pot load of money to spend from the sale; Carrick demonstrated that. It is the players of real quality who are the difference between the Top 4 and the chasing pack. The squad players at united or Arsenal are no better than at Spurs, perhaps worse. But they have enough genuine stars to lift them to another level. We have Berbatov, and if he is fit, King. Even Keane and Woodgate are arguably no more than very good squad players. Lose Berbatov and mediocrity beckons.

Berbatov is not bigger than the club. I do concede his better than the players surrounding him at the moment. When he leaves for a champions league club IMO he'll become just an average player just like Carrick.

Carrick isn't an average player - he's one of the top midfielders in the country - he was whilst at spurs - and is now at Utd - difference is he's got medals to go with his status now

Berbs will be one of the top strikers in the country with Man U just as he is with us - if he goes there

As much as i'd love Berbatov to stay, 30million plus, is too much to turn down. You guys seem to forget, the season before Berbatov arrived, we were dare i say half an hour from CL qualification.

Since then, we've gone down hill. I don't think the effect of Berbatov leaving would be that disastrous as some are making out.

then we sold carrick

He wanted to go, nothing we could do about it, like Berbatov if rumours are to be believed.

Berbatov is a class act, and replacing him like for like, will be hard. But we can find another goalscorer, all we need to do is find a creative midfielder to supply the assists.

Carrick, was a different kettle of fish.

Carrick went to a Champions league club and his limitations where shown up IMO because of a greater expectation. He personally hasn't progressed internationally (although he has domestic medals) and players such has G Barry effectively playing at a level of football below him have gone onto progress.

The point is - going up a level can make or break a player and IMO I don't think Carrick has become a better player at United whereas Vidic has.

I totally agree. David Pleat may talk nonsense at times, but he was 100% accurate when he said what has held Spurs back over the past decade has been the choice of players we've bought.

Last Summer's purchases did absolutely nothing to advance the first team and move us into the top 4, even though a heck of a lot of money was spent...or wasted.

I am one such fan who rated Cups over league position because I loathe the hype and gravy train that is the CL. However I had better get real and face up to Football as it is now, not as it was or has been in the past.

well Carrick may not have got better but he's still one of the best mids in the country - and if Berbs goes to Man U I predict he'll still be one of the best strikers in the country
