Interesting Article on AVBs 'Failure' at Chelsea

So, I found this article about the extent to which di Matteo has benefitted from AVBs legacy interesting, and, particularly, the extent to which he was lacking players for his system at Chelsea who they now have, and he walked into WHL with players better suiteed than he inherited/got in his first transfer window, at Chelsea.

This is from my OP - there is nothing in it about whether AVB was a failure at Chelsea or not. I think therre are three points in here:

Whether, in his short time there, AVB left a legacy for di Matteo to benefit from?
The extent to which he had players suited to his system or not at SB?
The extent to which to has inherited players more suited to his system at WHL?

To which I would add a fourth:
Whether Abrahmovich has been more forthcoming this Summer in providing players suited to the system AVB was trying to implement, for di Matteo to benefit, or not?

Again, I can't see anything in there discussing whether AVB was a failure at SB or not.

You have a LOT to learn in life my friend. There are so many in between possibilities.

oh dear. it was a basis for discussion. not an ethos for living mate. now who doesn'tknow how to debate? seeing as you're not great at this, i'll tell you - it's you.

genuinely, i feel this discussion about villas boas time at chelsea on this board, being a spurs board, is centred wholly on the fact that he became our next manager. had he not, the caveats, the greay areas, the excuses would not be anywhere near as forthcoming as they are. that's my view on it. i am quite happy for someone else to have a different view. it doesn't bother me.

But that's natural. Being Spurs' fans we look into, analyse and debate every aspect of our club to nauseating levels.

If AVB went somewhere else I wouldn't put much thought into his time at Chelsea and would probably come to the conclusion that it didn't work out.

Looking at the whole picture I think he had a hard job and made some mistakes.

You can't put managerial situations into simple boxed such as 'success' and 'failure.' There are many factors involved.

Great managers fail at some places (Clough at Leeds) and other not so talented managers succeed at others if they are given the right support. It's about looking for a good fit.

AVB feels like a good fit for our club.

I think you're missing out on the 'discussion' element of a forum there!;)

I don't any of us are saying he didn't fail at Chelsea - but what's interesting and relevant to us is WHY he did and what he's changed thus far at Spurs to stop history repeating itself.

Actually I am.

He sidn't fail at Cheatski. They were 4th when he left after approximately two thirds of a season into a job where his brief was to revitalise an ageing squad. He may have made some judgement errors, but the failure was all Abramovich's for screwing him over.

It doesn't surprise me though that this is seen as a failure in a country that expects instant gratification rather than sustained, long term management and growth. You only have to look at every other industry in the UK to see the malaise is prevalent throughout the country and none moreso than in Football.

AVB never had a chance at Chelsea. I personally wished him well because it's exciting to see a young talented manager like him take charge in a high profile club, so when I saw the problems in Chelsea I felt bad for him. When I heard he was coming to us, I was extremely excited. I am very optimistic about his ability to take a club further, as he has very good thoughts on everything from youth development to the way the game should be played. I was not surprised that Levy was so impressed with him because he is the future of modern football!

2)And older pros who haven't had a great deal of top level success, by and large.

3) Maybe.

4) Especially if there were boschable women in the crowd (allegedly) ;)
