except ....

for me Bale is a much better left winger than he is left FB. Much as I love Steeeed's running around like a headless chicken and disrupting play, his inability to attack the byline, or even consistently pick out a pass means he doesn't feature in my Spurs dream 11. With Chimbo, E-A, Gunter, Wipey and Gilberto all capable of doing a job at LB, to play Bale there is a waste. The boy's got too much pace and too much crossing ability to be wasted there.

Just imagine what Bale and Lennon as 2 out and out wingers will do to defenses - ooohhh I feel a semi coming on.

I reckon that back 4 is indeed sexy, but not as sexy as... oh say Jennifer Love Hewitt! :hump:

Would just be great if we could get the left midfielder now to balance out the midfield which would then also provide a bit more balance in midfield and protection to our back four!

Would love that backline but I don't think we can rely on King. He is going to be an occassional player from here on in I reckon. Best start grooming Daws' potential.

True, but Dawson always plays well alongside either Ledders or Woody so we should be ok hopefully!

I think Bale will end up on the left of midfield, where he will excel. Watched Diego Capel last night and he impressed me also.

Given that we've conceded 51 goals this season in the league (over twice as many as the Arse), hailing next season's potential backline as "the best in the world" seems a bit silly.

First of all, there's a difference between players who are good as individuals and defences that work as a unit.

Secondly, take a look at the individuals you've named:

Bale: Great going forward, excellent at set-pieces, defensively ok, but nothing special yet.

Woodgate: Excellent. Terrible injury record but has been fit for Spurs so far.

Ledley King: Excellent but troubled by long-term injuries. Unlikely to play every week next season.

Hutton: Looks good going forward and fairly solid defensively. He has the potential to be a great player, but we've only seen him in a handful of games.

Then there's the other players:

Lee: Average. Looks to be on his way out.

Chimbonda: Excellent on his day, but far too frequently petulant, out of position and defensively suspect.

BAE: Always injured, not looked great so far.

Paul Stalteri: Crap. On his way out.

Gunter: Untested at the top level. Looks ok but we haven't seen much of him.

Anthony Gardner: Decent, but on his way out.

Rocha: On his way out.

Dawson: Looks good when paired with Ledley or Woodgate, but looks terrible when paired with anyone else.

Kaboul: Had disastrous start to the season when he looked like one of the worst defenders in the league. Has since recovered a bit. Has enourmous potential, but could also be a liability.

Zokora/Huddlestone: Can both play centre back and look decent against average teams. Wouldn't want them playing against any of the big boys.

We need to find out what's wrong with Ledley. If he can't play every week Ramos needs to decide whether to get rid of him and replace him with someone who can play every week, or play him every so often and risk disrupting the back line.

We've got a lot of players who have potential, but that's all.

Ledley said himself that he's confident he can get over his injury troubles and be a regular member in the side again, and I for one believe him. :)

Hutton, Ledley and Woodgate don't just have potential. They're all world class already.

Bale was at least one of our best players, if not our best player, in every game he played for us until he got injured, so I'm very confident he'll just continue as he was. :)

The club has also said that they were going to use King as a bit part player this season untill they feel he is ready to play a full season, i think the main aim was to play him in any big games (though we now no longer need to risk him) and save him for next season.

I wouldn't say that Hutton is world-class yet. What has he done on the world stage? He did ok domestically with Rangers but didn't do much in Europe. For Scotland he's played well, but no better than many other Scottish players and I wouldn't say that David Weir or James McFadden are world class. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player, but he still has a lot to prove.

Woodgate is class. I've said as much.

Ledley is class, but doesn't seem to be able to play very often, and even when he does, he's getting subbed a lot.

I don't think there's an awful lot left for Hutton to prove. Just to stay consistent, which he has been since we signed him.

Ledley will be a regular in the side next season. :)

I hope so.

I'm not saying that we're crap defensively. But this season we've had one of the worst defences in the league, and yet people are talking about us having the best defence in the world next season!

If that backline plays 30 plus games next year the against column will drop alot and we'll win many more games. I've still a sneaky feeling though that once Ramos sees Bale in action he might play him at LM if we can't find a genuine lefty in the summer.

how many games in a row have we keeped the same back line for though? swapping players every few games isnt the best of ideas for keeping a backline that will perform to high standards

Ramos likes attacking fullbacks though, so Bale would be perfect for left back.

Hutton and Bale aren't injury prone.

Well Bale has been injured more often than not since he arrive so in that instance Bale has had an injury riddled start to his spurs career. He has had 3 injuries since he arrived at the club hopefully he has just been unlucky but, it maybe something more than that. Hutton was out for a year at rangers and had to have his leg pinned so while not injury prone as such it certainly is a worry but, again he has been fine so far so hopefully nothing to worry about.

Hutton does have alot areas of his game he has to work on but i have no doubt he will become a great player for Spurs in years to come.

Alan was included in 3 out of 6 champions leauge teams of the week at RB, so he has shown can preform at that level aswell.

I would love to believe you (and Ledley). I really would. However it took time, pain and preparation to accept in my mind that we will not see Ledley play regularly again. That way, you will be more disappointed than I will.

If not, I will be pleasantly surprised.
