Despite an Excellent Carling cup win and some encouraging performances against United, have we really played that well since Ramos took over?

Last year (seville 2nd leg apart) we were magnificent in Europe - I don't recall one good performance in the UEFA cup this season? I would question the inclusion of Gilberto tonight. I am not going to judge him on 45 minutes, and I am sure he will come good, but why risk him against what turned out to be an excellent/well drilled PSV side?..I still don't know what Lee has done to not be picked since the Ar5ena1 drubbing?..he may not be spectacular but he his solid and does a job.

Playing PSV tonight, I tried through red wine tinted glasses to imagine it as a Champions League game...PSV are Champions League quality...so how does are squad match upto a Champions League side?

Goalkeepers -- Robbo kept us in it tonight but him and Cerny are not good enough for top 4 or indeed a Champions League side.

Defence -- Woodgate, King (if fit), Hutton are top 4 quality, Dawson, Kaboul are good back ups and Bale, Gunter, Gilberto need more experience/games. Chimbomba (as Pleat called him tonight) can go, he shows no passion or effort for me.

Midfield -- Malbranque, Lennon are premiership quality only. So frustrated with Lennon - he has so much pace but just does not use it to great effect - no end product what-so-ever. Jenas alongside a commanding rugged midfielder would be excellent we just don't have that rugged midfielder so 3 out of 4 midfield slots need filling I think. Huddlestone, O'hara, Taarbat are good squad players. Last point on midfield - I still don't understand why Tainio does not get the holding midfielder role for the rest of the season, he did well on Fabregas in the Ar5ena1 drubbing.

Strikers -- Berbatov and Keane are quality but with no decent service even they struggle. No Bent on the bench tonight (was he injured)...don't think he will be with us past the summer so 2 strikers required to supplement Keane and Berbatov.

So a long winded way of saying we need at least 1 goalkeeper, 3 midfielders and 2 strikers to even consider a top 4 - Champions League spot.

The hard work begins for Ramos now, I don't doubt he will get the 3 wins required to secure Premiership safety, but more silverware added to the Carling Cup this season? - I don't think so...the honeymoon is definately over.

lets not have any knee jerk reactions, it was an unfortunate mistake by a player making his debut and playing his first game since december. The team will need to pick themselves up and win over there which they are capable of. A few lessons learnt tonight but we have a cup and are still building a team under a fantastic manager coys!

:bs:

Yes we have.

I'd happily eat humble pie if you pick good performances other than the CC final, City away, Arsenal lge and cup, Man Utd games, Wigan at home ?

Nope, we haven't.

I'm assuming of course that you've just decided to completely discount the Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and two Man Utd games, right?

Because of course if you actually were counting those games, then everyone would obviously be thinking that you were just a little bit thick, wouldn't they?

Right?

This is a really stupid thread to start 10 minutes after we've lost a big match at home, when emotions are running so high - especially when you've only made 13 posts on this site.

This thread is pretty much asking to be negative-repped.

What have the Romans ever done for us?

Yes, we've improved. Quite a lot actually. Anyone who can't see that because of two poor games in a row at Brum and today needs to get their eyes sorted.

I don't recall saying Ramos out?

So you all think the squad is good enough for a Champions League spot next season?...

Seriously how can no-one get frustrated seeing every single free kick wasted tonight?..Lennon - bags of pace but won't use, Chimbondas lack of effort?

ramos seems to know full well we need quite a bit of strengthening in the squad

a lot of the squad are talking themselves out of a place in the squad come next season right now

I agree bit of a nonsensical thread.... however, how many posts he has made should be of no relevance. It reminds me of idiots in my military days "get some time in lad, can't have an opinion or a mind of your own until you get some time in" FUCK OFF is what i say!!

we shouldn't put new posters off b telling them they shouldn't give their opinions until they've 'done some time' how is the forum supposed to grow if we dont let people post what they think, no matter how long they've been here!?! Eek

It wasn't about individual players tonight , it was about teams and managers and we were outdone on both counts .

The second leg promises to be an even more revealing barometer of the team .

My worry about Ramos is that he is never going to be long term like SAF . A couple of lacklustre seasons and I think he would cut his losses if our board don't early bale .

If our squad needs any strengthening to compete with PSV then it need strength of character more badly than football ability .

Jol was ousted for supposedly not getting the most out of the players despite excellent results . Are you really suggesting that Ramos cannot do any better and that we need to replace a large proportion of them to compete with PSV Eindhoven ?

Don't know why your getting so much grief, I've seen much worse threads started by high posting regulars.

Your absolutely right that we played better in the Uefa cup last year.

As for the honeymoon period, that's been extended after winning a trophy, but don't worry the sharks will be circling next season if our league form went tits up like this years has.

Because some of those mocking you are the type of supporters who would turn on a manager pretty darn quickly.
