Have we got a deep enough squad?

So we should just give up trying to find a back up striker?

It's like we fucked up on a speedy winger with Nkoudou & Njie but finally got it right with Lucas.

Jury is still out on Lucas in my opinion. I'd say we got it right in comparison with Njie and GKN, he's still largely ineffective though.

I said we needed to add a new backup striker. To which you countered with they would never play so we couldn't recruit anyone. Which we have been able to recruit people, you said well they weren't good enough so whats the point.

Re-read what you wrote:

Its easy to say we've got our top 3 scorers out and blame the game on that, but IMO its more than that. Our backup striker is a joke compared to our competition.

Your point was that our backup striker situation compared to our rivals is a joke, I replied basically insinuating that it's going to be difficult recruiting better than what we have.

You then went onto use Llorente and Janssen as your examples and used them as an example as to what kind of quality we can bring in however you are contradicting yourself because you originally insinuated that they are poor, understand?

Isn't it obvious I mean good players would never come into sit on the bench as opposed to just anyone, that is the whole entire point, we have and going to continue to struggle to bring good players in because they're not going to want to sit on the bench behind Kane nor would they want to be paid a comparatively low salary when they could be earning more elsewhere and most likely playing more matches.

Why doesn't anyone understand this, it's like this argument crops up literally every fucking week on here.

Please stop being pedantic or move the goalposts or create straw men, it's dishonest and frankly tiresome.

Can any of these straw men play up front? And would they be willing to be an understudy to Kane!? ;)

To be slightly serious though, this striker thing probably goes right to the heart of the OP and if the squad is deep enough. That needs to be clarified a bit by saying deep enough for what?

If we want to win the league whilst also trying to reach a domestic final then it's almost definitely not strong enough. But I don't think that is the club's target right at this moment. I can imagine that feeds into a lot of what Poch has been saying about a trophy not being the most important thing for the club at the moment. He's been given his work order which is to get into the CL, so if he thinks that having Llorente as a backup striker can achieve that then it might explain why he doesn't want to spend money on another striker who's a bit better than Llorente... may as well wait until we can get somebody a lot better.

I think it ties into a lot of the ENIC investment debate as well but let's steer clear of that for the minute!!

So if the current target is to qualify for the CL then I think that the squad is plenty deep enough, and if that is the case I think it explains a hell of a lot about the lack of transfer activity.

If the current target is to win the league then I don't think the squad is deep enough, although it's tough to nail that down in any quantifiable way. It's understandable that a lot of us will expect the club's target to be to win the league, but in the financially-doped landscape we're in there's certainly merit to staging our targets and not trying to reach too far, too soon.

We must be a special club. Every other rival club seems to be able to manage with two quality strikers.

Adding to this I believe our shortfall is consistency.

Each player in our squad, on their day could be a match winner.

KWP, not so long he provided 3 assist in one game, however yesterday the hand ball lead to a pen. Tripper likewise will produce top quality assist/delivery however many a times his blunder leads to a goal. Same with dier, can protect the backline however he is prone to the occasional error leading to a goal.

That has been an issue this season, our consistency has just not been there and most errors from players seem to be critical. Adding to this is Vert pen in the NL derby, two pens to wolves however we were fortunate to be 3 ahead otherwise that couthave been points dropped as well.
But how often do Lamela or Moura have their "day"?

It means, I haven't got a constructive argument so I'm going to throw some bollocks out
It means that your opinion does little more than allow the thread to descend into an argument. If I want to read that kind of shite I'll go to the FC.

You have the best avatar on here mate, so you get some leverage, but they will need to be a bit stronger for me to consider every member of our squad as a game changer.

Don't worry mate, my post was just a really shit joke because steer stating you'd taken painkillers, you said "I am really struggling to see that.".

I'm not known for my humour.

It's hardly an argument more of a debate and debate is healthy and it's exactly what community forums are for, it'd be pretty pointless if we were all on here agreeing.

The squad depth is nice, it's more the first 11 I'm having some issues with right now. Full backs and central midfield could do with some upgrades.

Depth is an issue, too many senior players we cannot rely on, especially in central midfield, and no conveyer belt of talent from the reserves. But the real problem comes when we have to replace Eriksen. We need to do some serious rebuilding in the summer, the money is not there, and I am not convinced Poch and Levy are on the same page as regards targets.

I’d still maintain with a 25 man squad we are 3 away from being very solid:
Llorente upgrade
Nkoudou upgrade( as 6th choice AM young promising English be fine)
Wanyama upgrade- even if regains fitness we don’t need Dier winks wanyama Skipp we need a more attacking CM.

And 5 from being serious title contenders:

Moura/lamela- Upgrade one with proven top quality.
Trippier/Aurier- upgrade one or possibly sell both.

The situation is nowhere near as drastic as some are making out. 5 quality in and we are proper contenders. And only 2 of those are likely starters. Suddenly matchday squad looks very different.

Lloris
Wan bisak Alderweireld vertoghen Rose
Rabiot winks
Son dele eriksen
Kane

Bench: Gazzaniga sanchez davies sissoko Malcom moura Werner.

At home: whiteman trippier Dier Clarke kwp foyth Skipp.
