Great gesture this. Thank you on behalf of the club. I’ve been supporting them since 1964. The way things stand, we have made money from the cup but this is about equal to income that we have been deprived of because of the closure of the clubhouse. 180 seater and 80 seater lounge used for wedding receptions, bar takings etc. Each year is a struggle. Last season we made £4000 profit and we breathed a sigh of relief as we have no rich benefactor. Every pound is hard earned. Re the Third Round, the FA has not said yet if the losing team will receive any money as in previous rounds. The money we receive from gate receipts will also be rather small compared with what it might have been.
Crosby is in a relatively affluent part of Liverpool, on its northern edge but it’s a real struggle to compete with Liverpool and Everton. Our average attendance last season was 466. Our fans are as passionate about Marine as any club in the city.
One of our most famous players was John Lacy. If you know your history you will recall he played for Spurs in the early 1970s and is still involved ....corporate hospitality director someone told me yesterday.
Some of the comments on here are quite nasty and as a non League club I think undeserved. However, regardless of these opinions, and everyone is entitled to them, I think everyone from your club will enjoy the day. You’ll be given as good a reception ...even better ..than if it was Everton or Liverpool. Mourinho has already shown great humility in his comments on the Spurs tv site. It is gestures like this that cement friendships between clubs. We have a long, proud history. However, playing Tottenham Hotspur will be our proudest moment and a day that people will talk about well into the next hundred years of Marine FC. Thanks again and I will do my best to promote this gesture of goodwill because the intention only paints Spurs’ fans in a good light. I have passed on the bank details to the organiser and thanked him on behalf of our chairman. Any Spurs fan coming to our ground in the future will be given a fantastic reception. We wish you could attend and hope we don’t get stuffed!
That's a lovely post. All the best to you and the club and congratulations on the incoming windfall!

Not sure if it's already mentioned, marine are apparently holding a raffle where a winner will be allowed to manage the club for a match

Didn't we do the same a few years back and Sherwood got the winning ticket?

Secretly, I wish as a supporter I were close and involved with a team as Marine. The PL has lost its soul and money is the influance and I coudnt feel less contected. You have more than momey can buy. Loved the news item of the keeper (also his birthday) going to the off licence in his kit to buy beer after the 2nd round win .

For me, encourage all to buy merchandise good idea.

They're a part time football club. We're a multi-million dollar business. It's ludicrous in this era that this nonsense is allowed. You don't get it another sports. You won't find the LA Lakers playing some part time basketball team. You don't risk multi-million pound assets on park football pitches against players of Sunday league standard. Or you shouldn't have to anyway.

It's pointless. Send our under 23 or under 18's up there for a day out.

We all know jose isnt going to risk the players he heavily relies on in this game. Kane, son, lloris, ndom, dier and hojberg should not be getting near the pitch, I'd include lamela as well as i dont want him to get injured. But its a good match to give others game time with some academy lads mixed in.

So there could be a lot of byes?

I didn’t think of it like that but I guess so yeah. I really wouldn’t be surprised if our game doesn’t go ahead for example. It’s a prime one to be cancelled if you ask me.

Pretty cool, just checked and this is up over £8500 now. Cheers all. ?

I know some of you didn’t like the idea and that’s up to you, but for me it was a nice opportunity. Nice to see some good being done in what can be a bit of a soul-less sport at times.

Marine have sold over 20,000 virtual tickets at £10 a pop.

The US based Spurs blog, Cartilage Free Captain, raised £9,000 to sponsor Marine's shorts.

Jamie Carragher also sponsoring Marine to the tune of £20K.

The £8,500 raised by Spurs fans on Facebook that you mention above.

Programme and scarf sales of £....?

Spurs auctioning shirts and memorabilia in aid of Marine (and these auctions can raise north of £20K).

Plus a big chunk of TV money.

So, even though it's a massive shame for Marine that fans can't attend the game, it will still be a massive financial shot in the arm for them. Great stuff.

Thank you for posting this mate, didn’t know of some of these extra bits of fundraising.

Like I mentioned I Know some didn’t like the idea and that’s up to them, I just think sometimes it’s nice for a small club to get a big old shot in the arm and a good day out.
