Hi guys,

Hope this is ok to post. Wanted to make it seperate so it didn’t get lost in the pages of a match thread.

Our upcoming game against Marine in the FA Cup is huge for them. It will more than likely be shown on TV and they will of course get a share of the profits for that, however one Spurs fan has set up a GoFundMe page where fans can donate some money as well. Perhaps the price of the burger that you would have had at the game, the ticket cost, petrol money - whatever it might be, any amount can make a huge difference to a club of marines size.

I wanted to share the link in case anyone fancied really helping out a smaller club during these covid times, and also, getting a bit of a positive news story out there for Spurs fans.

I should point out, I don’t know the guy who has started the page, I’m just putting the link in here from various Facebook groups relating to Spurs.

If you want to donate, please feel free, if you don’t want to, please know there’s no pressure to do so.

Is the link you will need, @Rob by all means if things like this aren’t allowed just let me know and I’ll delete it.

Who is the bloke who is organising it? I am always a bit wary with stuff like this.

In a nutshell mate people on the main Spurs Facebook page, and other fan pages kept saying that this would be a nice idea, but lots of people kept saying they weren’t sure how to go about it - this guy basically just said let’s actually get it done then. I’ve looked through his profile and he’s clearly a Spurs fan and has done charity collections like this before.

However if you arent sure about it, But wanted to contribute, maybe buy a program or a scarf or something from the official Marine FC store?

Think Spurs should donate whatever proceeds we make from the game to the club & maybe auction off the matchworn shirts for the proceeds to be given to Marine as well

Mmm ordinarily I’d happily donate to something like this but my hatred of all things Scouse goes well beyond Liverpool and Everton so they can go swivel as far as I’m concerned.

My sentiments exactly, sir.

Furthermore, let's see how the match actually plays out. What if they win and progress in the competition? Then what would they need my money for? They have time and capacity to play around with their hobby, good for them I say. I'll wait and see if I think it's a worthy cause on the match day.

Erm. So isn’t this like giving them a bung to lose the game?

This is genuinely what I was thinking – let's see how the bloody match goes.

Are we terrible?

Not to be negative, but surely they're getting an absolute massive payday (by their standards) from this anyway? Must be better "charities" to rid ones burger money with.

I regularly go to watch my local non-league team and the crowds are actually up with no professional games to go to. I don't know the financial ins and outs but I don't think teams at this level have been too badly hit by covid, add in the prize money and the TV money that is sure to come and they are probably set up for a couple of seasons.

Wow, I thought it was a brilliant idea, so did not expect the responses I just read :(
Then you are actually a friendly and altruistic person. Nothing wrong with that.

Honestly though, it's probably not bad to think through what actually constitutes a worthy cause in the football world. Is it Rashford's charity? What about women's football - at all levels? Or is it a non league club who usually would never dream of the income from the FA cup in the first place? It's not straightforward to me, and not automatically a given that every lower league opponents is struggling.
