I prefer to get behind Spurs and cheer them on rather than sing about the shortcomings of rival players, why don't we sing about our team rather than other teams

This is an extract of an email I got from Jim Duggan of Topspurs.com

There is a coach which leaves the palmers green area to follow Spurs on all away
games and has between 20-50 regulars on it, a real varied mix of scarfers, druggies,
nutters etc and has been going since the early 90s

For some reason the last song or the most memorable song of the trip used to be
can't smile without you and it went from the coach to the terraces in the mid 90s, i
first remember hearing it in 1997 away at Liverpool (Francis last game) and has
grown and grown since

It was a good, fans only underground thing for quite a while and then a few of them
got photographed with the can't smile without you flag at the 2001 semi final and
from then on it grew and grew so much so that the club cottoned on and used it in
the last game of the season celebration back in 2006 (which I'm sure you are aware
of)

No fucker i know can remember this from back in the 90`s. An email from Jim doesn`t make it a good song.
The bit about cole was a joke btw.

Apologies you are quite clearly a better fan than me and I bow to your greatness

Furthermore other people may not know the origins of the song, so it explained it anyway

I thought this was such a great idea until I saw the words 'Barry' and 'Manilow' :bang:

We're associating ourselves with the preserve of piss-whiffing, blue rinse grannies and fat, idiot, menopausal, depressed middle-aged divorcees.

We're giving other clubs plenty ammunition to rip us to bits with this and I don't care if certain supporters groups like this tune. They're wrong, this song is wrong and barry manilow is wrong, just like sticking your tongue up a horses sphincter is wrong.

Its a bit of a laugh to celebrate our cup final win, you sound like you need to lighten up a little

This song was actually first released by The Carpenters, Barry Manilow's version is just a cover.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic about the cup final win. It's just I really fucking hate manilow. As much as I'm aware that musical taste is subjective, he sounds like kermit the frog, his fans suck, his songwriting ability is way overrated as they're all dirge and all thats left is an average easy listening pianist.

Manilow seems to be taking all the credit and flak for this song (depending on your point of view), when it's not actually his song.

In fact I doubt the Carpenters would have written it either, it was probably written by songwriters, but it's their song so they should be getting the praise and criticism.

Personally I don't really like Manilow or The Carpenters, but I don't mind this song (possibly because it's grown on me because of the number of times I've heard it because of Spurs.)

Just checked it out on wiki (yeah, you can "check out" Manilow!). It wasn't written by either the carpenters or Manilow. I think his version is associated with Spurs as he as a big nose. (hehehe)

Can't we just all shag Cheryl Tweedy, that way we'll fuck over Chelsea again.

Get her to sing "I'm just a love machine" and "I'll stand by you (on the Shelf)"

I'll be eager to enter her "charts" at number one

The Manilow is cool in that very 2008 "I grew up with my mum listening to this" kind of cool.

I would have posted this reply sooner but I was busy sticking my tongue up a horse's sphincter, which is great fun by the way - I recommend it as a pass-time to everyone.

I refuse, I fucking hate Manilow & this song is shit all to do with spurs

I'd rather Chas & Dave's Victory Song tbh.
