Blimey people on here don't think much of Lloris' mental strength do they?

"Mon Dieu! I have been dropped for a match against my old team! Sacre Bleu! I will now have to play very very badly in all other games that I play in!"

Le nonsense.

You know him so well(y)....,vous etes trompes;)

The Friedel/Lloris bedwetters on here are getting so tiresome...Friedel did great for us, sure he had his faults but nowhere enough to warrant Lloris being proclaimed the Messiah in comparison. Avb handled the whole situation very well and has seemingly kept both keepers happy thus giving us arguably the best 2 keeper combo in the PL, which is to our benefit...just look at Chesea!!! If Brad playing in games like tonight's game is part of Avb's plan for the two of them, then so be it, that's good enough for me.

Yes let's not use our former number 1 keeper for any games, after all, Lloris is the better player.
In fact, let's play the same 11 and only have the same subs.

Who cares about the rest of the squad getting game time to you know, stay sharp, match fit.

Tonight is important, no doubt, but so is the league and we still as a result have a lot of games to go and we need the full strength of the squad. Sometimes that means playing non regular starters in certain games, because, hey, maybe they deserve it?! Maybe their performances and attitude in training simply warrant it.

Secondly never mind burn out, but what about risk of injury?
Thirdly, Tactics. Lyon know all of Lloris's strengths and weaknesses, so remove him and let them think on how to target Brad.
Fourthly Squad harmony, if certain players can't get game time then why stay? why give a feck when really needed.

You could go an entire season without changing your keeper for a single game, but come to the last game of the season, said keeper is injured. Then who are bringing on? You reserve keeper who has had no game time, involvement for an entire season? No sorry, that's just plain stupid too. With Brad ticking over in a few games he is ready, he is fit and he is motivated to come in at the drop of a hat and perform. Is he as good as Hugo, no, but this for me is a sensible call.

So yes Lloris could play, sure, but I see NO reason not to trust Brad for this game. He is an excellent keeper and deserves to play, to challenge Lloris as was undoubtedly promised to him.

AVB clearly has a thought process behind playing certain players in certain games.

For some reason he plays his reserve keeper in the Europa, has done all season. He has a reason for doing this and he should stick to that. Not going to mess with Lloris as he already knows the situation and AVB needs to stick to his guns. No need to change because we are playing someone's former team.

Of course people are entitled to their opinion and if some want the strongest team put out then fair enough.

I'd be interested to hear why AVB does this though. I can't imagine it's simply to rest a keeper.

Bloody hell, I feel sorry for Brad if we let in any goals tonight. The naysayers on here will murder him.

We have the best set of keepers in the league, imo, and Brad is definitely the best backup keeper at that. Better than a few Premiership number ones too.

So chill lads, we'll be fine!

Seriously though, he was fine mentally with being eased into the team at the start of the season (well it didn't impact on his performances in any case) so don't see why one game out would do him any harm.

The bigger issue is whether he fits into how our defence has been playing, and I like to think that AVB has at least considered trying to encourage him to come off his line a bit.

Exactly, but how else are you going to test this and give Brad the chance to prove himself in the pressure pot if not in a real match?! And yes I know Brad is vastly experienced, but he still needs game time with the current system and his responsibilities.

I can't believe anyone is actually annoyed that Brad is playing?! I'm sorry, maybe my meeting fuelled day has fried my brain, but it just seems sensible given everything. It's not like there will be a total 2d string out tonight, but a sprinkling of experienced and good players....?!

People on here are crazy.

Manager rotates "why is he dropping our best players?", "has AVB fallen out with player X?"
Manager doesn't rotate "player X is going to get burnt out", "the squad should be managed better"

The problem with this little synopsis is - its the keeper position - there is nowhere near the same level of need to rotate your keeper.

What I don't get is that AVB clearly takes this competition very seriously. Its very simple for me looking at it on that premise, why not play the better player?

I also believe it wouldn't make one iota of difference to Friedel if Lloris played tonight. He's been around so long and even talked openly at the start of the season that he would prepared to fill in...in whatever capacity.

If the decision has been made that he plays in the cups, when Lloris came in permanently for the League games, I assume AVB will stick with that.

AVB has already successfully navigated through the PR minefield initially in dislodging Friedel in goal so bar Lloris carrying a knock, there is no logical rationale behind it.

Friedel went bankrupt a while back didn't he? I'd say he is probably fairly content to sit on his 18 month contract at 50 grand a week and maybe the odd appearance now and again....

No need to rotate keepers - they can play week in week out. Especially pointless given there is no match this weekend. Why keep Brad happy - he's old and I don't think he would be too pissed off anyway.

I'm sure Lloris does have the mental strength to get over this but why piss him off? I'm sure he would absolutely love to play against Lyon.

Spurs have 2 #1 keepers,.... one is just really old ;)

Spurs at home will be on the front foot tonight and don't expect the keeper to be very busy, so I don't think that selection is a big issue. I wanna see Bale, Ade, Holtby, and Lennon tear them apart!! Spurs keeper is just gonna be a spectator tonight - COYS!! :singing:

The world and his wife moaned about Harry not rotating, now they all moan about AVB rotating!
