Ex-Manager watch: Antonio Conte

D

Deleted member 27855

A widely respected guy who has consistently been praised by numerous managers for his character and ability, including at international level (and by serial winners Mourinho and Conte) and who is known as a very articulate and intelligent man outside of football.

But sure he's toxic and all our problems stem from Dier.
Point to the part where I said all of our problems stem from Dier. I never said that. Nice strawman.

Do I think he's a big problem? Yes, I do. I think that among the players he's the single biggest problem at the club.

The managers? All of them soured on Dier at the end including Poch.

100% this. I don't know why some fans only seem to be able to blame one or the other when it comes to Levy, Conte or the players.

It's not a choice between Levy's decisions costing us, Conte's failings or the players underperforming, all three can be and are true, all at the same time.

It's not team Levy or team Conte situation. It's actuallty team Tottenham and both Levy and Conte (and the players) are letting us down in that regard.
Yes the combination has been toxic. I almost think that the desire by DL to win has actually been part of the problem. I can go back to when he got rid of Jol to bring in a 'winner' Ramos. I read articles at the time which heavily suggested that Spurs should be careful as Ramos was just a part of a system that was at the club and worked really well, after he left they kept on winning! From that moment he has started with managers, or systems...we now have more bosses than players...but has never had the patience to see it through, chopping and changing.

Players have often shown improvement but failed to develop further or got to their ceiling. Without doubt under Poch we should have won stuff but in key games experienced players have gone missing. Managers have often been one-dimensional, maybe you call it stubborn...for example Conte at the moment is utterly predictable.

We need to find an identity, method of playing, structure that builds the playing side. For several years under Poch we looked like we had something with a feel good factor I hadn't experienced for 40 years or so. Whoever comes in next must be someone who can galvanise everyone; fans, players, staff and the board. I have no idea who that could be but hopefully someone at Spurs does!!

All this discussion about what he actually means does not excuse the fact the team play safety first, dull, unattractive and turgid football. For that reason alone I want him gone.

Ashamed of what? We drew a game. Prior to this, we've won 4 out of 6 in the league and 4th in the form table.

We are technically in a similar position to where have been sitting in the last 8-10 years.

The result was disappointing, however, it didn't warrant the response.

What ridicule do we deserve?
This willingness to accept mediocrity scares the hell out of me.

The result was unacceptable. Southampton are circling the drain and before Saturday had scored a grand total of two goals at home in thier PL games *since Jan. Then Spurs, who pretend they're going balls to the wall for Champions League football, turn up and let in three!

There are some capable players out there but there is no application and as nothing else has worked. They deserve the ire and ridicule that should come their way and frankly if a player can't accept legitimate criticism and scrutiny after being undeservingly protected for years then they are in the wrong business, perhaps they should join the civil service instead.

You know what, it would not be bad and Conte would not have shamed them if this was a freak result but it always happens.

Unfortunately for the boat to really be rocked it’s going to need Harry to ride off into the Manchester sunset with a few medals while staging Levy off as to why he couldn’t achieve that at Spurs

This bald twat doesn’t care what managers think, he believes he knows more than all of them

That is the crux of it.

I can’t believe some people are begging for him to sign a new contract because of the things he said. That is essentially indoctrination.

If Nuno said these things before he got sacked, absolutely nobody would be begging him to stay and sign a new contract.

The football is shit and has been shit all season. Conte spoke home truths because he was trying to salvage his reputation and not because he cares about Tottenham. Sack him now.

Yeah I think everything he said is bang on and I'm still highly critical of his performances. I think there's an expression along the lines of, listen to your enemies because they'll be honest about you.

I agree with majority of that but Nuno had us about 9th. Conte somehow got us 4th and will leave us in 4th.

Conte has also won multiples leagues and cups, Nuno hasnt. Not the greatest comparison that.

If he isn't sacked during the international break it's because the majority of the board thinks he is our best chance at CL football, that's the only plausible reason to keep him IMO.

I thought we would hear some noises this morning but nothing of note has come out.

Finances trump everything at THFC, and that CL spot is very lucrative on the yearly books.

How do you spin this into willingness to accept mediocrity. Southampton drew at old trafford last week, and took a point from arsenal at home.

Yes, the result isn't ideal. However, it doesn't warrant toys being thrown out of the pram. Perhaps our elite manager should have used the opportunity to learn from mistakes, but instead he throws everyone, but himself under the bus. He is responsible for setting the team up, and motivating them. He failed on both accounts.

Your post comes across as incredibly entitled.

I’d be stunned if he isn’t sacked this week. The players, rightly or wrongly, are running to the press. I don’t particularly like much of our current squad but Conte’s comments were out of order. especially as those same cowards who only play for themselves likely kept him in the job by constantly wrestling results back in our favour at the beginning of the season.

I’d say our chances of getting top 4 are much weaker if we keep him in the job or appoint Mason as an interim. Poch/Tuchel, imo, would get us that final spot.

Oh come on! We are 3-1 up 15mins left, to a team with both centre halves out, no manager, worst home form in league, played 90mins 3 days before, 20th in the league!

Could say how do you spin this into accepting its not the worst result in the world. Its an absolute shocker!

The club are stupid if they think that lol. Whatever anyone thinks of Conte and the players it's clear that we are a very very poor side atm. The relationship is not working. On our current trajectory I can't see us winning either of the next two, Bournemouth after maybe but then we're into a run of Newcastle, United and Liverpool. Only way we get 4th is if we get rid and pray whoever comes in can get a manager bounce of sorts.

Yup - and a lot of the time, IMO, it gets us worse results than we should get...all the while watching that crap
