There already is. Regardless of how you feel, this is a reality.

The big clubs (inc. Bayern) have won the Champions League since Porto won it in 2003-04.

The vast majority of the clubs promoted to the Premier League are either those that were previously relegated, or those that have spent big. Those smaller clubs that buck the trend tend to fall down the divisions and not get back up - think Swindon, Barnsley, Bolton, Blackpool, etc.

There’s already 3 tiers of professional football clubs, and to be honest, regardless of history, 92 professional football clubs in England, and 40 in Scotland is unsustainable in the long run.

I actually don’t know how I feel about the ESL, as the situation needs to play out - this is only 2 days after the initial announcement.

But the whole position has clearly been building for a long time.
True, but at least in this system a team like Spurs can get to a european final. Teams like West Ham and Leicester can quality for the Champions League. A random team like Burton Albion can get bought out by a Lithuanian billionaire and have their day in the sun.

It's not exactly fair or romantic, but at least it's actually possible.

The ESL is a completely closed shop. No other club would be able to enter the top echelons ever. That, alone, is HUGE difference, not to mention the turmoil caused in general by the split and the knock on effects to all the 'lesser' clubs.

But anyway, seems like City and Chelsea have seen the light and the rest will surely go down like dominoes in the next few hours or days. Hope Levy learns a lesson from this.

There’s a meeting tonight between the 12 wallies apparently. I assume that will be the end of it.

Something must have happened with UEFA/FIFA. I can’t see them spending years on this to just bail.

Must be more money somehow to these clubs.

How much money did they pay the lawyers for 2 years for it to all fall apart within 24 hours?

Fuck me the incompetence.

Levy waiting until we are the last team left, in the hope JP Morgan will just give us the entire payday!

I can only assume that the clubs got some kind of leverage from UEFA in exchange for the demise of the ESL
