We remain committed to the values of European football, and we will continue to work with fellow clubs through the ECA and participate in UEFA competitions.

What a pointless announcement.

I'd prefer us to stick two-fingers up to the whole thing but if we aren't (and we won't) why bother using actual words to say nothing at all?

I know that I'm being picky and am more than willing to be called out, but what's the point of using abbreviations if you're not going to use them later in the statement? Also, if you do, surely you use them throughout out and now I'm annoyed thay I don't know what the ECA is.! Sorry, it's been a long week and I'm taking little things too seriously! Happy holidays to one and all!

FIFA and UEFA are far from perfect, but having elite football controlled by a minority of club owners (who are equally far from perfect, but also far less impartial) would hardly be an improvement. It would make about as much sense as leaving the big oil nations to manage the global response to climate change, or replacing our inept government with a handful of unelected billionaire businessmen.

Levy should've paid a much higher price for being a prick that went along with an even less competitive format than we currently have. Absolute horseshit of an idea to create franchise footy and subservient domestic leagues. Says nearly everything about his ethics and understanding of what makes footy great. 3m fines for that stunt was a joke. Far more unethical than Everton's recent troubles, for example.

Part of me wants them to create this league and just fuck off. Let them have their elite "content", the rest of football can get back to being a proper sport again.

Actually almost anything is better than vile, corrupt and utterly disgusting FIFA, but this is more about UEFA.

I haven't seen the new proposal in full yet but if it's still a 'closed' competition without any sort of jeopardy then it's doomed to fail anyway. Relegation/Promotion is an essential part of competition, the lower the stakes the lower the interest.

If they do plan on changing that and allow clubs to drop out or quality then I'm all for it. UEFA/FIFA are just middle men who are shadow-governed by the mega rich club owners anyway.

Honestly the more I read about this the more I accept I was wrong to reject it. This is not a replacement of our domestic league football, it’s just somthing to replace the Champinons league, and from I think it reduces games which imo is good as the players atm are totally fucked. UEFA are milking players dry for profit. I’d rather have fewer games and fitter players. I’m totally for a whole new European league, as long as our domestic league is the same. Actually on that I’d happily cut the PL by 3-5 clubs, we would all get better football.

It would be difficult to object to those same adjectives being used to describe those running Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Man City etc.

I’ve heard it from a few sources now and it makes total sense, it’s being driven by the big two in spain and Juve purely on the basis they don’t have a pot to piss in.
Sky created this monster 30 years ago and I’m sure in their wildest dreams they never imagined that it’d end up where it is now.
English clubs do not need it and without English clubs being involved the whole ‘project’ doesn’t happen.

Would peoples opinions change if it was a league without VAR?
Ideally, they could all fuck off and bring VAR with them. Then domestic footy can boot them out and go back to refs.

Of course, Levy is one of the knobs in the closed-door room that Ange was talking about today. He thought it was a great idea. That numpty would be all in still if it wasn't for the broader backlash in English footy.

Oh i agree. The very principle of Super League was stupid with no relegations. However, in a time off mass corruption at our football governing bodies, a third party event that can threaten the cash cow events of UEFA and FIFA will have more chance of creating change. The court ruling will take some power away from UEFA and FIFA, and hopefully bring better conversations that benefit clubs and fans.

Its time for clubs and fans to get more power again.

We already know… once done they won’t go back, way too much risk for the clubs with the franchise locked into the top system.

Utter bullshit setting up a system of haves and have-nots.
