On the BBC
"
But in a letter to Uefa and Fifa, seen by the BBC, lawyers for the ESL say they have filed injunctions to prevent player and club bans, saying they consider such actions to be "unlawful".
An insider at the ESL said they had prepared themselves for a huge backlash, and thought they were on firm legal ground with respect to competition law.
"I think in the cold light of day, they are looking at this and the reality is dawning that this is happening and it's perfectly legal," they told the BBC. "

Be interesting to see what the UK government come up with , refuse entry into the UK for teams participating in an unsanctioned competition, no more freedom of movement from EU into UK we have control of the borders.!!

You cannot force a country to call up players for their country. It doesn't need to be a legal ban.

And yes (not that I have any faith in the government to stop this) but we can simply refuse licences for these events to go ahead.

48 hours ago this post would have blended right in in the Manager Watch: Jose Mourinho thread.

How? Please explain how Leicester and West Ham potentially finishing above Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, and Arsenal but still being denied a seat at the top table benefits football. Imagine if after the 2016 Euros qualifying UEFA turned around to Northern Ireland and said 'congrats on a successful campaign but we're giving your spot to Holland instead'. The super league benefits no one but those involved in it.

but that's the whole point though it protects the so called 'elite' - I don't think they have any intention of going through with it but by raising it they are forcing the hand - the big clubs know that football can't do without them and they want to make sure the top competition reflects that and allows them to have an even bigger pot the revenue involved. Moving away from the Champions League format which allows smaller countries an outside chance is already happened to some degree and by creating a League which means the big boys play each other more regularly and they control the media revenue which is what this is all about kind makes sense if your one of the big boys.

They won't break away imo they won't need too, but it will change, the Champs League will become bigger qualification will be easier for clubs in England Spain France Germany throw in a couple of other countries and that will grow further

Of course the smaller clubs will suffer but they already are

Who says the champions league can't cp exist with the ESL where teams from England like wolves West ham Leicester could still qualify for the champions league and make money that way ?

3rd placed Leicester goes into the secondary Champions League and gets somewhere between €25m-120m depending on how they perform while 9th placed Arsenal stays in the elite ESL and gets €330m for simply participating. How is that fair?

Levy blinking first and Spurs getting cold feet? (Talksport) He should make the call quick and try to come out of it with some credit.

Lol. Parliament is sovereign. If Johnson is sincere about his support for a "legislative bomb" then the six clubs can go and get fucked Super Bigly.

I would absolutely love it if they all end up in a far weaker position than just three days ago. And it's looking 50/50 atm.
Its in 3 cases American Money so USA will get involved if their business interests are threaten

To be honest, now he’s gone this far then he has to carry on (imo). The damage has been done and pulling out now would probably be even worse for us in the long term. It’s a shit show and one that I’m not sure we could ever have avoided for reasons that have been discussed over and over again in this thread.

Just seen on The Twitter that one English club (unnamed) is thinking of backing out.

Did TalkShite name the club as Spurs or were you guessing?

Yes that is true but can every country be relied upon in a World Cup not to call up players who have participated in ESL if FIFA ask them to ignore such players . E.g if Egypt are in Qatar would they ignore Salah.

I never said it was fair, i just said the mid table clubs would still benefit. Your right its probably not fair but it's necessary for the richest clubs to start this up so it has more eyes and fans watching, it needs to be a success from the get go

Cant imagine Levy backing out. We'd probably have the most to gain from this thing (financially)

I'd have said City would be the one getting itchy feet.
