Levy actually admits something I levelled at him.

Stadium meant he took his eye off the ball with regards to on the pitch matters.

That was my take from it as well. It clearly wasn't possible to do both, which makes it even more evident we need a seperate sporting director whilst he continues to finish the ongoing Stadium project.

I think Levy had been working on the stadium in one way or another since ENIC took over, so I can understand how he ended up getting a bit obsessive with the final result.

Interesting part for me is the admittance that they lost focus during the stadium build.

It really feels like the footballing side of the club has been disintegrating over the last five years or so. Our recruitment and academy structure seems miles away from where it was in the early ENIC years where we had a director of football tasked with buying young players to develop alongside an academy with a joined up playing style and a coaching team all seemingly aligned under the same philosophy and remit.

For a while now it feels like key members of this structure have left without being adequately replaced and I currently have no idea where we are trying to go with the football side of the club. Where once, I felt we had one of the more modern football structures and philosophies around, this seems to have given way to a scattergun approach resulting in reactive decision making lacking in any joined up thought process. All the while many other teams have caught up and we've seen the likes of Liverpool and Leicester put structures in place superior to our own.

I doubt ENIC are going anywhere anytime soon so I really hope that the penny has dropped with Levy and he gets to work rebuilding the football side of the club. We desperately need it and I'm pleased to see him hinting towards this in his statement. We have far more solid foundations to build on from when ENIC took over and do believe we can be successful if we can get the footballing side of the club right. As others say though, actions speak louder then words and the pressure on ENIC will quite rightly only increase should he get it wrong.

Why would anyone believe a word levy says in that article?
we know he has brazenly lied to supporters in the past. What is different now?
i can’t see how he can be trusted.

note Levy says “competing for honours“, not winning honours

Just because he "has lied" in the past, it doesn't follow that everything that he says is a lie.

As to using the phrase "competing for honours" rather than "winning honours"....quite apart from the fact that that is mere semantics, it is perfectly obvious that he was directly referring to the earlier part of the same sentence, when he wrote, "we have come close over the past seven seasons and everyone's focus is on a return to....competing for honours".

If, in the precise context of the past seven years, he had written, "everyone's focus is on a return to winning honours", that would effectively be a lie.

And as the first part of your post makes evident, you don't want him to lie.

"It has never been because we don’t care about or respect you, our fans – nothing could be further from the truth."

Happy to charge us the highest ticket price in the league for the one home game we can actually attend this year. Happy to charge the highest ticket prices (on average) anywhere in Europe. More than happy to move us to East London if they were given the go-ahead. Happy to join the European Super League and participate in destroying the sport for everybody else in the process.

Pretty words, but their actions betray them.
This reply is bang on the money, no idea why @absolutebobbins decided to affix a Doh to it....

Best statement I've seen from Levy/ENIC in the last 20 years, it was pretty much bang on the money.

Very positive that they're looking to hire a manager who is more in-line with our DNA and style of play we want to see and good that they've been humble enough to basically apologise and admit they lost focus, that is good leadership.

Now lets see if their next actions can speak lounder than their words but credit where it is due that Chairman's statement was exactly what I wanted to hear from them. Fan representation on the board whilst perhaps in reality not having as much impact as we'd like, it is a good gesture if nothing else and shows some sort of regard and understanding for the fans feelings.

The £60 ticket prices for this return game in comparison to all other teams doesn't sit right at all but the statement was a positive, lets hope they build on that.

Ideally we don't want Levy/ENIC out and mass ownership change we just need them to re-focus and improve the football side of the club which should always be n.o1, the off the field stuff they've done for the club has been incredible but its crazy that we have to almost remind them that this is a football club 1st and foremost.

Go and get Rodgers out of his Leicester contract or get in Flick or Ten Haag etc and give them free reign to re-build this squad with young players who are willing to fight for this club and play the way we want to enjoy the football and get back to where we want to be.

Massive massive few months for the football club and for Enic and Levy coming up..

If i could be bothered id go back and read the statements from previous years and see how they stack up with what was promised and subsequently delivered. I distinctly remember promises about not selling key players and then proceeding to sell Berbatov and Keane in the same window and then Bale after another similar promise.

Once bitten, twice shy and all that. As my mrs is always at pains to point out to me, actions speak louder than words.

It was a positive message. People often accuse Levy of a lack of ambition. I don't see this. I believe he fired Jol, Redknapp and Poch because he does demand a lot.

He often gets it wrong. I just really hope he gets the next appointment right and we have a shake up of the scouting and buying system.

Sometimes players just want to move on.

It would have been a huge mistake to keep Berbatov, Bale and others indefinitely to show we don't sell our players.

We don't sell key players just because of the amount of the bid. There's a big difference.

A bigger mistake to sell Berbatov and Keane and bring in Fraser Campbell and Roman Pavleychenko?

Berbatov was in 2008. Bale was in 2013.

It's been 8 years since we sold a key player and 13 years since we sold a key player to a rival.

The purchases were wrong.

Berbatov went on strike for the move and Ramos reportedly didn’t want Keane.

Not getting the buys right is irrelevant.

agree, the signs of contrition continue and we know when they are under fire they usually realise they have to act.

My problems are ticket prices and him failing to realise that if you drop 250m (that much?) and go so far backwards as a result then the judgment of those who identified the players in question must not only be questioned but their heads should roll- certainly Hitchen’s.

Does make me laugh that he wants a coach to ‘return us to free-flowing, attacking & entertaining football’.
The reason we have to ‘return’ to that is because your last appointment was so horribly polar opposite of this!!
If style was/is so important to him, why appoint someone like Mourinho?!
Fuck me.

I'm glad to see some semblance of introspection and acknowledgment that they lost sight of what matters. The first step to improving anything is to take responsibility for it and not look to make excuses, to say they lost sight of the priorities was exactly how I felt things had been going over recent years so it's good to see it in writing that they hold their hands up.

We now need to see the actions which will show that they're now prioritising what matters and that's success on the pitch. Getting the right team in place in terms of who makes the footballing decisions between management and boardroom are key and making sure the people with the responsibility of making the decisions are footballing people and making sure the structure from boardroom to the management stuff is all pulling in the same direction is the start of this.

With respect, mate, I think that your statement is only accurate if you believe that Kyle Walker was not "a key player", and City are not a top four "rival".
Forgot about KW.

That being said, he's another player that everyone on this board was rejoicing about selling and getting what we did for him. Which is mainly why I wouldn't consider him a "key player". Losing him didn't really hurt us on the pitch.
