Does Poch really not rate Veljković ?

It's a really strange one with Milos. He was a top performer in the under somethings World Cup this year. A tournament with lots of star players involved. He won it as captain of Serbia and was impressive throughout. Something odd with this and a Club statement would be nice. Like I said it's a real strange one what's happening with Milos.

Correct me if I'm wrong but he was CB for that was he not? It seems like he does play CB a lot and as many have said in Poch's team he'd probably be best used as a CB. That being taken into account then, he's got Verts, Toby, Dier, Wimmer and Fazio infront of him in the first team squad. At youth level he's also got CCV who I'd argue is a better prospect at CB than him, which leaves Milos either against very hard competition or trying to force his way into poch's team as a DM.

I think overall, a loan would be best for him. If anything so it can change up who he's playing against and give him some games at adult level like Oduwa is having. I personally always like it more when our players are involved in a first team somewhere rather than just at U21 level

At his stage of development, he needs to go and nail a loan this year - like Oduwa is doing.

But I've heard we won't loan him until he signs a contract extension (hence we pulled out of proposed deals last month to Leeds and Portugal), so it's currently a bit of a Ceballos style standoff. Though with more hope of a resolution in this case.

He does not need to go on loan unless it is to a top level league. Otherwise keep him here. The reason the loan to Leeds didn't happen was because we either couldn't get assurances of the amount of game time or they wanted a clause to buy that we didn't agree with. Also I think you mean the loan to Spain, which if it was to happen I don't know why it fell through, maybe it was halted when we realised we weren't going to get the DM we wanted...I can dream.

He's played 8 games of adult football in his life so far - 2 for us, 3 for Boro and 3 for Charlton.

Compare that to the 99 Townsend played on loan or the 72 Walker did before they established themselves in our first team squads.

Not every player needs a loan, he has proven himself consistently to be one of our best players since he was 17 and at the highest youth international standard, he needs to be challenged and his level upped. Townsend was an anomaly hence why people mention Mason and Townsend going on hundreds of loans before making it, as a point of interest, it's not common practice. You don't need loads of games, just a change of scene or an increase in level to help progress your development. Once you've played a few you can move up a standard.

Joe Gomez played 21 games for Charlton before being bought and ready to play in the PL
Oxlade-Chamberlain played 36 for Soton in L1 before being bought by a PL team
Alli only played 62 games for Dons, and thats because he was introduced to their first team really early.
Walcott played 21 games for Soton before his PL move.
Bellerin only played 8 games at Watford before becoming an Arsenal regular
Even Walker played 11 games stretched over L1 and the Championship before playing regularly in the PL.

The reason Mason and Townsend had so many games is they were players from within and had to start on low level loans to work themselves up. Being from the academy they also wouldn't have looked as appealing as a well performing young player in another academy. Example Pritchard tore up L1 playing a whole season (36 games) and still had to go on loan to the Championship before he stands a chance here. When they're not your players they seem to be valued higher and disprove the myth you need a load of games. If we had bought a player from Serbia's golden generation who had captained their u19s to Euro victory at 17 and then won the u20 World Cup and had put in good performances in the Championship before being injured. We would not be saying to loan him out we'd be asking him to be included in the Europa League squad.

This is all before mentioning players like Bentaleb who didn't even need to go on loan

If Fazio hadn't allegedly demanded crazy wages from WBA, Milos could have stepped up as 5th choice defender (behind Jan, Toby, Eric and Kevin Wimmer) and a squad DM, getting game time in the cups to begin with.

He has the potential to be better than Fazio as a defender, and he has a good range of passing, probably better than Eric Dier's, as a DM.

After his experience at the U20 World Cup, he needs to be playing competitive football. Let's hope he signs a contract, and we can loan him somewhere he'll play at a decent level if he's not going to get gametime at Spurs.
