Why would we have to stop calling ourselves Tottenham just because we no longer technically played our home games in Tottenham? Chelsea's stadium isn't in Chelsea and they never had a problem with their name (the stadium is in Fulham, borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea borough is next door)

If we want to be literal about being in Tottenham rather than, say near it, then 1) why are we so bothered about Arsenal - after all they haven't invaded Tottenham; 2) Why are places such as Islington so important in our early history; 3) What would our response be if 'Tottenham's' boundaries were to be redefined, making it a London borough rather than a district or whatever itisnow.? Just wondering - I do have an opinion but not a really strong one...

Most of our fans don't live in Tottenham and wouldn't want to live in Tottenham.
A lot of us may have left the area but we have grown up around and still hold a certain affinity to it. Yes it's not a gentrified, trendy place but it is still close to my heart. As a youngster I was proud to support my local team. I also find it quite distasteful that people are turning there nose up to Tottenham as if it was some sort of cesspit of society.

Personally, I would play our PL home games in the States, China and Japan.

We would get a lot of money to play official PL games abroad and the PL are obsessed about growing the PL worldwide.
Yes, because teams would be delighted to travel half way round the world for 90 mins of football...

From a personal point of view, and one I'm sure won't be popular, but I don't have much affinity to the area of the club itself, so I don't see it as important around location.

I've lived in Hampshire my whole life, my family moved down this way back in the day, so for me Tottenham Hotspur is the club, not the area.

As long as the facilities were top notch, and within reasonable reaching distance, I wouldn't really mind where we were set up.

Don't know why we didn't build the Stadium on the training center site in Enfield, not a million miles away from Tottenham, in fact there is still scope to build were the garden centers are, if indeed planning permission could be secured. Close to M25,.train links at Enfield town, Edmonton, and Turkey st.

If the question was posed a couple of years back I would of said yes without a shadow of a doubt however now I think it's imperative for the club to be in a position to join the European League when it happens & if that means moving out of Tottenham then as gut-wrenching as it would be, over the history of time when the European Lg is up & running it would seem less important than if we were playing English rivals every week. Hopefully the stadium can be done in Tottenham however if for some reason it can't & doesn't get built, then we should look to build it at the nearest possible location & if it's outside of Tottenham then that's just something we will have to live with. The alternative is to stay in Tottenham & become a yesterday club kicking a ball around with teams like Watford, Leyton Orient & Fulham in a regional championship Lg because when the European Lg gets started it will be the end of the Premier lg & the foreign Tv money that goes with it...who's going to pay to watch a Lg without the top 6-8 clubs in it ?. The new stadium is as much about maneuvering the club to be in a position to be involved in a European Lg when it happens as it does been competitive with our domestic rivals.

There is no reason that we can't stay in Tottenham. With all respect you said a whole lot of something that means nothing, is theoretical, and based on removing the identity of being in Tottenham. I love Tottenham the area even though I live far away, I did work there for 4 years though and do feel an affinity with the area. As a supporter why don't you?

in this day and age of the Football "Business" it really doesnt matter if we are based in Tottenham or not. Corporate/Match day revenue is important to the club - but equally so fan loyalty etc.
would we really dislike it if we were able to stick a 60,000 seater stadium right next door to the training ground for example? i dont think so.

However,

I think we (as a club) have a heavy emotional investment to N17 now and the redevelopment/regeneration plans have the football strongly at the centre and the club is integral to the future growth of the area. after 100 years of us investing ourselves into the club, the club now needs to repay that and stay where it is.

My vote was a 'No' -...............but i really do hope we stay. (maybe its a head v heart thing. maybe i'm just rambling now)

hmmm, reading that back i wonder if i can be placed and more prominently on the fence!!

one more note;

i think the club means different things to different people. if you live very local to the club i think you will have a stronger desire for the club to remain where it is whereas if you are a supporter born and bred further field you are more likely to enjoy the essence of what the club stands for rather than the fact it is based in tottenham, and thus would be more liable to accept relocation as a possibility.

There's nothing theoretical about it at all.. Clubs are already having meetings to discuss the the formation of a European league.. the latest meeting was in Monaco in September. If your happy for us to be left behind & to become a nothing club fine but as I said there will be no Premier League when the European League is up & running & no PL means no star players & the reason I became a Spurs fan was more to do with the players who played for us than the area we came from & I wouldn't stop supporting us if we had to leave Tottenham.
I don't want us to have to move however I want us to progress & have a future more & Tottenham Hotspur is not totally defined by the area it is in, A club is as much about the players & the style of football it plays than where the ground is situated. If the stadium can be built as planned great & if not I don't want us to become a small-time regional club like Milwall, Brentford or Leyton Orient which would happen if we don't have ourselves in a position to be part of the formation of the European Lg.

It's sad, but the history of the club being at White Hart Lane N17 and the great games that were played there and the trophies that we won there means little now in the days of corporate boxes, and mercenary players with little loyalty.

But the thought of surrendering North London to the scum and leaving them as the sole team in that part of the capital just makes me sick to my stomach.

Ideally I'd love us to stay in Tottenham but don't believe it's a must.Chelsea play in Fulham, Millwall play in Bermondsey, Queens park rangers play in White city, Wimbledon play in Kingston and Barnet play in Edgware, so it's not unusual.I do believe though it's a must that we stay in north London, so anywhere in Haringey, Enfield, Barnet or Brent I'll be pretty happy with.

I'm from herts but my dad was born in tottenham and was a tottenham man, it's why I'm a spurs supporter. I'd prefer us to stay in Tottenham because I don't like the names like Hotspur FC and what not that have been floating around on here, and if we move then being called Tottenham Hotspur doesn't make much sense.

Maybe I'm too much of a traditionlist with these things though. The club has clearly grown outside of Tottenham with fans all over the world. I can definitely see the argument but I still think amongst the British fans there is a pride at being a Tottenham fan, not just a spurs fan.

And not forgetting Woolwich FC who play in Highbury!
