Did have a decent gam, he gave a captains performance but why was he not marking Adebayor at set pieces? Surely, he is their biggest aerial threat and Dawson should've been marking him. For the first goal, why was Jenas marking Adebayor, it makes no sense at all. Who on earth were Dawson, Gallas, Corluka and Crouch marking? And I have no idea how the sudden change of Jenas for Lennon would confuse them at set-pieces. 2nd goal was really sloppy, they took quick short corner and it looked like Dawson was waiting for Ramos to come to our area, instead of worrying about the immediate danger (Adebayor). So annoyed with those 2 goals.

A challenge from anyone would have been nice.

Yep, the organisation on those two set pieces alone was shocking. Adebayor is huge, he was picking up crouch on our attacking corners, so why Jenas was marking him on the first goal and seemingly no-one on the second I cant understand - surely lennon wasn't going to pick him up, so what had changed...?

So fucking annoying, I knew he'd score against us - always does.

I really really hate Adebayor, can't stand him at all. He's such a smug twat. That's why I was probably against us signing him.

Dawson played well for the most part tonight, and I've just got back to my hotel and haven't seen a rerun so I'm hazy on who was marking who at the set pieces.

I can't understand why who was marking who wasn't sorted out beforehand by the coaching staff - and surely Dawson would be allocated Adebayor ? If not shouldn't this come under his captains remit - making sure he has the ariel threat and others are doing a matched up job ?

That second goal was fucking schoolboy by the way. The exact same thing happened in the first half at one of their corners.

CROUCH should be marking ADEBAYOR, they are the same height virtually

The corner in the other end a couple minates later ADEBAYOR marked CROUCH

Where was Dawson for the 2nd? Marking space at the back post by the looks of it.

Lucky he didn't give a penalty away as well.

Adebayor, as much as I detest the SOB, scored two excellent goals tonight and both down to lax marking on our behalf. If Lennon had played surely he woudn't have been the person to man mark him at corners, so I wonder who was designated, as on both occasions his headers were nigh on perfect ??

Does the coaching staff sort this stuff out? I'm actually starting to believe that the players are told nothing about the other team/their players and are told to "go out there and do your best."

Harry claims that they work on set pieces and I doubt he's lying about that but I genuinely think that, by and large, it is very much a case of "go out there and do your best".

Lets be fair gents...Crouch really let us down.

What????????

The first challenge was a yellow. The second was a yellow for the dive ffs.

IMO. The referee fucked us majorly. Bale was battered and checked at every turn. Down to ten men we did really well to stay at 1 down at half time. Then Red earns his wages. What did he do? Take VDV off. And tell us to defend on the six yard line. Pathetic. VDV had to come off cos he was so angry and knackered but not untlil the 62nd minute surely? Then by bringing the **** Defoe on left us with no outlet, but he's triffic and the next Greaves....Fucks sake.

Corluke, Ekotto, Jenas and Gomes are a joke. No team in the top 4 would EVER entertain them with contracts, same goes for Defoe.

We could have stolen a goal and we should have kept it at 2 nil. I thought we would concede 5.

It was a shambles. I hindsight, and I appreciate Redknapp doesnt have that, neither does anyone. But in Hindsight he should have taken Jenas off. Or Corluke and brought on Bassong as early at the 20th minute. Or at least half time. 1 nil is acceptable. As is 2 nil. But there was nothing.

Dawson was great anyone that disagrees is a cock. Gallas did his bit too. Sandro was a bit over awed but still showed enough. Modders tried his best but he couldnt do everything. Played his worst game all year but still was our engine. He was faced with 4 players his same quality.

What a cluster fuck.

And who should mark Ronaldo, Ramos, and the two Centre Backs, who are all equally, some better in the air than Adebayor.

And as you have pointed out sooooooo many times on this forum, Dawson loses his man frequently from set plays but yet you now want him marking their(according to you) main aerial threat.

Make sense fella

And by the way everyone should know who they are marking beforehand, it will be the captains job to make sure they are doing so, not measuring the height of the opposition and appointing his own players accordingly.

It's got fuck all to with what I think. Harry Redknapp obviously doesn't share my opinion of Dawson and neither do you, and you would both presumably be happy for your "captain" and "leader" and best ariel defender to be allocated the biggest ariel threat - you know the bloke that scored two headers last night. Therefore the first failing IMO is his (Redknapp's) schoolboy approach to defensive organisation - and not just at set pieces, but particularly set pieces last night.

I don't believe for one minute that Redknapp allocated any instructions for corners etc - because it was a fucking shambles.

Whether Redknapp had or hadn't allocated, I would definitely have expected Dawson - our captain and leader and man at the heart of all defending set pieces - to be far more involved in the organisation than he was. And as you say, there several danger men from set pieces, but Ramos is about 5 down that list. Wouldn't you rather your hero, our defensive leader to be marking someone a little more dangerous than Ramos who could and should have been marked by Bale (his marker) or one of the others.

That second goal came as a direct result of shocking on field defensive organisation, and there was an incident exactly the same in the first half. It was fucking comical. Dawson & co (and they were all as bad) were just casually sauntering scratching their arses generally while Madrid were taking the corner.

Where was the famous leadership of Dawson ?

A leader needs to able to organise and kick arses, make sure everyone is pulling their weight, staying alert and giving their all.

No-one, including me, would ever question Dawson's bravery but i definitely question his leadership qualities - as I have never seen them.

Having only seen the game and tonights highlights, I'd imagine Lennon was the designated out-ball, to use his pace from the set piece clearance.
Bale was switched to the pacey outlet which left us with one less 6-footer defending the corner. With the resulting shuffle in the box, Dawson and Gallas shifting over and seemingly forgetting their focal target man, the two soft Adebayor goals were almost inevitable.
